    1. Re: [PETERS] Clay/Peters
    2. From Crystal (me)> >I have a ton of PETERS from Va/Wv. Monroe Co > >especially, not too far S of Fayette Co. From Jerry Bryan >c24m48@hotmail.com>: > Your note is *very* interesting to me. > I have three Peters lines in Anderson County, TN. Several members of the Peters and Scarbrough/Scarborough families moved to Tennessee in about 1797 from Greenbrier County, VA.> > At least, I know that Tobias Peters and Elizabeth Scarborough were married in the Rehoboth Church in Greenbrier County, VA, but the church is now in Monroe County, WV. So your Monroe County, WV Peters family is probably the same family as my Greenbrier County, VA Peters family. > The first two Peters who moved to Anderson County, Tennessee were > Tobias Peters and Henry Peters. Jerry: Don't know how helpful I can be. I may just muddy the waters. 99.9% of what I have on my Peters is work done by others (bless them for sharing!!!!) Folks who had to do it the VERY HARD way, from the 1940s onward w/o computers, internet etc. The senior researcher with the most information is also a great one for referencing, so I trust her information. Add to that I've recently finshed grad school. For the past 3 yrs all the great info I've been sent on ALL my branches has been piling up 'gathering dust'. My brain has been so busy with academic matters, I've forgotten much of the family information once dedicated in my brain, so I'll have to dig thru all the stuff and re-acclimmate myself to it. I'm currently submerged in another branch (NICHOLSON-pick a spelling, any spelling) & can't honestly say how long working thru that information will take. Be assured when I do come up for air and plunge into the PETERS again I'll contact you with as many specifics as I can find. Until then, let me throw out a couple things that still reside in my flooded brain. 1-If you [meaning anyone reading this] trace back to Johannes Hans Ulrich Peters + Rosina Catharina Heuschel, then you are a cousin of mine & I am most excited to chat/get acquainted/trade info/do research together etc etc with you. 2-There are TONS of Peters tracing back to these folks. I have several trees given from other cousins to meld into my family tree, so there are many I'm only faintly acquainted with to date. 3-These Peters are DEFINATELY German. From Weiler-Hilsbach, Baden, Germany. I know some Tobias Peters folks think he's English (that's why I haven't paid much attention to emails with him in it to date.) However, IF he links to any of the proven kids of Rosina & Johannes, then, at least on the PETERS side of his genes, he's of German descent. 4- These Peters came to American via Philadelphia; Lebanon & Lancaster Cos, PA and maybe other locations in PA. And down the oooh-what's-it-called trail/pike that so many of the Scotch-Irish settlers used into Va and the deep south. I know these families were in Augusta Co., Monroe, Greenbrier, Shenandoah, Rockingham, and likely other counties in Va that I'm forgetting. Yes, I'm betting we're talking of the same families. 5-My direct Peters branch and others of them, went to OH, and on to IA, KS, OK, and a few over the generations ended in WA. 6-Others went to TN. A Michael S. Peters has a homepage at www.familytreemaker.com that details this family (or at least he did a couple years ago when I last checked). At the time of discovery of this I did not receive a reply to my correspondence to him. Other then knowing from his file that 'we' went to TN, I don't more of this. (It may be in a pile of mine...but....) If memory serves, these Peters are in quite a few counties in Eastern/Central TN, and some of Michael's Peters ended up in GA. Excuse the length, and I apologize for not being immediately free to fully dive in to your quieries. I PROMISE to get back to you with more details. PLEASE keep in touch. We move frequently (Army) but my email remains the same. Crystal Crystal A.
