    3. I have a David Peters, b. 1768. Reports are he was originally from Pennsylvania. Haven't been able to determine where or what county. However, he did live in Lewis Co KY for awhile and eventually settled in Rush County KY. I located his grave marker this past summer. Let me know if David is part of your Peters! 1. Frank Demetrius PETERS
    2. This is my first posting to this list. My PETERS line is the shortest in my family research, primarily because two successive generations of Peters died very young before they could pass on any family traditions to their children. This is what I have learned: My mother's father, Frank Demetrius PETERS died when his daughter was 5 years old. He was an early aviator and died in the crash of an experimental aircraft, 7 June 1930, Clinton, OK. He was born 21 October 1898, in Livingston, TX, and was a veteran of W.W.I. His father was David Franklin PETERS. Apparently, David died before his sons 2nd birthday, because his wife was listed as a widow in the 1900 census for Polk County, TX. David's wife was Annie Elizabeth WILLIS, whose mother was Anna B. McKEON. These two women, unlike their husbands lived very long lives. Annie WILLIS died in Waskom, TX in 1972, just short of 104 years of age. Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frank Emerson

They were in Fulton County, Illinois in 1870, that much I am sure of. Does anyone know who the parents are of either Henry W. Peters or Mary Jane Richmond? Any information would be appreciated. 3. Hello! Can you help me with this puzzle? Rachel PETERS, my ggg-grandmother, was born 21 Dec 1825 in Ohio; married John HOXWORTH on 30 Jan 1842 in Franklin Co., Ohio; she died 11 Mar 1895 in Fulton or Knox Co., Illinois. I believe her father was Abraham PETERS, b. abt. 1799 in Virginia and married to Elizabeth. Abraham PETERS lived in Prairie Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio in 1840, and in Buckhart Twp., Fulton Co., Illinois in 1850. Sometimes, Abraham is spelled Abram on the censuses. My question is: Who were Abraham's parents? Where was he in 1830? A second unrelated question is: Who were the children of James PETERS b. 1777, the oldest son of Tunis PETERS? THANKS!!! 1. Oliver T. Peters, Plymouth, MA
    2. Teri Peters-Sheldon
    3. Hi, all, I have been working on my family history off & on since about 1979. I have had modest success with various branches, tracing some back to the 1400s, 1500s, and 1600s. However, the branch that has caused me to pull my hair out the most is the Peters family. I have included my line here, in the hopes that someone here will recognise something. Here's the progression: ________________ Teri (Peters) Sheldon (me); Kenneth Nelson Peters (1915-1986), m. at Methuen, MA, Edna Alice FORREST; Elbridge Oliver Peters (1880-1934), m. at Haverhill, MA, Inez Capitola HARDY; Oliver T. Peters (dates unknown), b. Plymouth, MA, m. at Plymouth, MA, Lydia Francis SEARS. ________________ I believe that Oliver was born in Plymouth, abt 1850-1860. I suspect that Oliver's family would be in Plymouth for more than a few generations, if Lydia's history is any indicator - the Sears family were among the early settlers of Plymouth Colony. Looking forward to helping you with any info that I have, both now and in the future. Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can give me, Teri ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm Researching the surnames Hardy, Forrest/LaForest, Manley, Perry, Peters, Sears, Sheldon Get your FREE web-based e-mail and newsgroup access at: http://MailAndNews.com and http://MailAndNews.co.uk ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

    3. A Peters cousin, Otis Scott, sent me the following newspaper clipping: "Confederate Marker Dedicated -- Ferrum VA - A Confederate Memorial Marker for Civil War soldier William Peters was dedicated recently at Peters' final resting place. More than 200 people attended the ceremony. The gravesite is in Daniel Cemetery at 3599 Turners Creek Road in Ferrum (Virginia). Peters, who held the rank of private, served in Company C, 57th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, in the Confederate States of American military. The 57th was part of Armistead's Brigade, Pickett's Division (Longstreet's) Corps. Presentation of colors and re-enactment at the dedication ceremony were conducted by 1st Lt. Greg Gallion of the 28th Virginia Infantry, Co. C of Salem and other areas of Virginia re-enactors. The Rev. Kenneth Peters, great-grandson of William Peters, preented the eulogy at the ceremony. The dedication was conducted by Mildred Lee Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. President Mrs. Roy C. Joyce was among chapter members present. Peters enlisted in the CSA July 21, 1861 at Pigg River in Franklin County at the age of 27. Records show Peters was at home when his son, William Wise Peters, was born Aug. 15, 1861. The soldier returned to service and was present for duty until his death at the Battle of Gettysburg. Peters was wounded in "Pickett's Charge" on Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863. He died the next day from those wounds. Family members said they are pleased to have their relative in a known and marked grave. They point out that Confederate General Robert E. Lee started leaving Gettysburg July 5, 1863 and, with all the chaos, Peters could have been buried in an unidentifiable mass grave and later moved to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond as an unknown soldier. No records have been found from officers who knew Peters, the family said. A photograph accompanying the article is captioned: "Family members present for the dedication service are...Howard L. Peters of Bassett who is the only surviving grandson of William Peters; Roy DeLancey of Fieldale, who is a great-grandson of William Peters; and Ann DeLancey Martin of Spring Hill, Fla., who is a great-great-granddaughter and Roy DeLancey's daughter." William Peters, b. 2 October 1835, Franklin Co VA; d. 4 July 1863, Gettysburg PA. He married Rachel Hale in 1857, Franklin Co VA. She was b. 2 March 1829 and d. 12 March 1920. They had three children: Sarah Elizabeth Peters (b. abt 1859); Daniel Peters b. 1859; and William Wise Peters, b. 15 August 1861. 1. Re: FW: World War 1 Draft Cards
    2. Barbara Denny George
    3. Hi Everyone! Thought this would be of interest to some of you. It is in regard to WWI Draft Cards. I received this from a fellow researcher who received it from another researcher. Enjoy, Barbara *********** Good Morning everyone: I played hooky from work yesterday and spent the day at the NARA Branch in Atlanta and it jogged my memory to pass on some information to everyone. Prior to the US's entry into WW1 (approx. 1917-1918) every male between the age of 18 and 40 was required to register for the draft. The information found on the card was provided by the individual himself. The registration cards vary in information depending on the individual draft board. But by and large the cards include: The full name of the person (this means first, full middle name, any additional middle names and last name); the current address of the man; his age; his birthdate (some include his place of birth); whether he is a US citizen or a naturalized citizen (some ask if his father was a naturalized citizen and his father's race); his race; his occupation; where he is employed (name of employer); address or location of employment; name and address of his next of kin; some cards ask if the man is married or single and how many people he supports. The card is signed by the draftee. On the back of the card his physical description is noted: Height is broken down by short, medium, tall although some cards give the actual height in feet and inches; Build by slim, medium, stout although some cards list actual weight along with the build; color of eyes and hair; any deformities or injuries are listed (such as one arm missing, blind in one eye, etc); the name and address of the draft board and the date. When these original cards were transferred to the East Pointe NARA branch the LDS spent about 3 years microfilming these cards. There are hundreds and hundreds of boxes and the LDS opened one box at a time and filmed them - in state order. However, within each state the cards were filed by draft board, not by county or by draftee. This makes the searching of the microfilm difficult to say the least. The good news is that the Friends of the National Archives took each box after it was filmed (and checked) and sorted all of these thousands and thousands of cards into - state and then COUNTY order and then in alphabetical order by surname and put then in new boxes. The Friends deserve all the kudos we can give them for this monstrous task. So ... rather than spending hours and hours searching the LDS microfilm you can order copies of the original cards from NARA. if you know the county your ancestor lived in between 1917-1918. And BTW - Ancestry.com lists WW1 Draft cards in their searchable data bases, however I know for a fact that there are 22 cards for the surname WHITE found in McIntosh Co, OK and Ancestry only gave me 4 of them so don't depend on that site. I was told yesterday that some reps from Ancestry had visited the archives a couple of weeks ago to talk about filming the cards, took one look at the hundreds and hundreds of boxes and simply left. For copies: Send a letter requesting copy(s) to: NARA Southeast Region 1557 St. Joseph Ave East Point, GA 30344 In your letter be sure to say you want copy(s) of the WWI Draft application Cards. Include the name of your ancestor and his race, the state and the county. If you want copies of ALL of the cards with a given surname, ask them the cost of the copies and send a SASE for them to let you know the copying cost. In your letter be sure and say you want a copy of the FRONT and BACK of the card. Be sure to send a SASE for the return of you copies. The cost for the copy is 50 cents - 25 cents for the back and 25 cents for the front. If you only want one copy send a buck and say the difference is to be given to the Friends of the Archives, because after all they did all this wonderful hard work for you <VBG> Linda Home Page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/ Marion Co AR: http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion/ Washington Co NC, Haas & Hass e-mail list manager **FUN ONLINE CLASSES for ALL AGES** http://www.bdgonline.com/corselst.htm Beginning Genealogy Course 1 begins Aug. 20, 1999 Simple Machines begins Aug. 28, 1999 Buzz...Buzz...Buzz...Bees begins Aug. 30, 1999 Stamp Collecting with the Internet begins Sept. 9, 1999
