    3. Shippensburg is located on the county line between Franklin and Adams counties, about 40 miles south of Harrisburg. If you can get a PA map, follow route 11 south from Harrisburg to find it. I'm related to most of the Peters in Franklin county. Do you have any more information on your grandfather or his parents? We may be cousins! I have records of an Albert Chester Peters, born about 1910 to George Albert Peters and Margaret Knepper. But I have no other information than that. If Albert Chester is your grandfather, I can give you a lot of information on the Peters side of your family! And you can add to the information I have too. 1. [PETERS] Tidbit on Tobias Peters, Anderson County, Tennessee
    2. Jerry Bryan
    3. The following is from SOME PIONEER PREACHERS AND TEACHERS of TENNESSEE, compiled by ROSALIE AUSMUS KEEVER, 1974 (This publication is a Bicentennial project of the Tennessee Society, NSDAR) PETERS, TOBIAS, lived in Anderson County. He was an exhorter, or a local preacher of the Methodist church. The Peters' home was often the scene of religious services for the entire community. His son James was one of the leaders of Morgan County. James was born near what is now Clinton, Tennessee, August 25, 1798. In 1823 he married Rachel McCartt. She was the daughter of Robert and Hannah McCartt who lived on the headwaters of Emory River in Morgan County. He and his wife had six boys and seven girls. Several teachers and preachers in this family. Jerry Bryan (P.S. this is the first I had heard that Tobias himself was a Methodist minister. I knew that James was a Methodist minister, and that a number of James' children were Methodist ministers. There is a Francis Asbury Peters in Anderson County, no doubt named after the famous Methodist circuit rider Bishop Francis Asbury. But Francis Asbury Peters was the son of Henry Peters, Jr. and the grandson of Henry Peters. So I gather that both the Tobias Peters line in Anderson County and the Henry Peters line in Anderson County were big in the Methodist church. What I don't know is whether Tobias and Henry were related.) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    2. Ken, Thanks for the low down on the name. I don't know the exact origin of the Peters surname. I know Antje's father is from Germany, most likely the Ostfriesen area as my other family members are. I don't if or when the name became americanized or the name it might have been before immigrating to America. The Meester name is all new to me. Appreciate all the help. Thanks for the translation. alan :) >Hi Alan, > >I don't have any direct information on your lines, but in case it might >help, I thought I'd give you a little background on the names, possibly >offering a few clues to their origins. > >Antje is a Dutch name, making this line of Peters also most likely Dutch and >pronounced "Pay-ters", or possibly they changed the spelling from Pieters, >which would be pronounced "Pee-ters" in Dutch. 3. Hi Alan, I don't have any direct information on your lines, but in case it might help, I thought I'd give you a little background on the names, possibly offering a few clues to their origins. Antje is a Dutch name, making this line of Peters also most likely Dutch and pronounced "Pay-ters", or possibly they changed the spelling from Pieters, which would be pronounced "Pee-ters" in Dutch. The "-tje" ending of Antje is used quite often with children's names, similarly to a -y ending in English, such as Becky, Kenny, Larry, Johny, Jimmy, etc. and has a connotation of "cute-little". Her actual given name could possibly have been Annike or something similar. Meester is also a Dutch word, literally translated as "Master", usually used to mean a male school teacher. 1. [PETERS] Tunis Peters - English vs German "Debate"
    2. Miriam- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the German theory? What I am looking for is the 2 sources(other than a person ie. birth record, bible record etc.) This is a primary source that will directly connect Tunis to Phillip and Catherine (Quick) Peters. What I am checking for here is whether it is a solid link or a bolstered link source? It is perfectly ok to share the information for free in this forum! future generations will look back and and say, "I'm so glad that our ancestors got together and shared their info in the Peters rootsweb forum". By the way, have you seen the Fox Forum. It is ausome! There is a lead we should follow! John Peters New York

    1. [PETERS] George Peters
    2. Charles Clark
    3. As much as this list seems to have fired up in recent weeks, I'm going to toss our frustration out again in the forlorn hope that someone, anyone, can provide a clue. On 6 April, 1837, Sidda Adams married George H Peters in Sangamon County, Illinois. All we know of George Peters is mostly conjecture. He may have been born about 1811 in Kentucky. He is NOT buried in the family plot. He apparently deserted his family after the birth of their last child in 1860. Supposedly he was seen running a diner in Xenia, Illinois. When that burned, he is thought to have moved to Vincennes, Indiana, running another eatery there. ANY fact, hint or even wild conjecture would be more than we have. Thanks for listening. Chuck and Martha Clark

    1. [PETERS] PETERS & ALLIED FAMILIES NEWSLETTER AND WE DATABASE
    2. I wanted to get back to you on the Peters & Allied 2000 Database. We have had tremendous positive response from every Peters Line across the US and some even from Europe! I just purchased a new computer and have installed FRONTPAGE 2000 on it! So let the Design phase begin!! Over the past six months, we have been in contact with over 50 dedicated people researching other lines of Peters. All 50 wanted to receive a copy of the Quarterly via email. Hence, we will start seeing more articles not directly related to James Peters, but in the long run may connect somewhere way back in our line of Peters. We in turn will help others find their ancestors by eliminating or affirming their Peters they had once suspected as being related. And I think it is very important to include Allied Families. If we look back and see what information the daughters of families have brought to light in our research of John & Rachel (Pownall) Peters. So I will say it againÂ… that it is very important that we include Allied Families. Volunteers to date on delivery of the database have been: Sally Arn - James Peters Descendent Bonnie Lowry - Richard Peters Descendent John Peters - James Peters Descendent If you are interested in contributing, please contact me at Jakeowen@aol.com or by mail at John O. Peters, Valatie, NY 12184. We should be on-line by the end of June 2000, ready to have people enter their lines!!!! So pull your data together! I figure it will take approximately five years to incorporate all the Peters lines with significant detail to each line and branch.
