    3. Berhard sounds unusual. Could it be Bernard? By Holland, I assume you mean the country and not the province. The Rhine river exits Europe by way of the Netherlands. Antje is as far as I know not my relative, but rather one from someone else to whom I was replying. However, I do have a Peters ancestor in the USA and I'm debating whether she is from Dutch or German background. Of course she probably has lots of both in her, since many ties exist between the two countries. My ancestor is Mary Peters, b. abt. 1818 in Westmoreland Co., PA., as I've been told. This person is said by some to have been Pennsylvania Dutch, or in other words German. However, their premise was based upon third-hand information that they were members of a German speaking Methodist church. "They" was not clearly defined and many Dutch did go to Pennsylvania. Their languages are very similar and would be no major difficulty for a Dutch person to learn German. In fact, Dutch are required to learn 3 foreign languages, of which German is usually one. My feeling is that perhaps the chances of her being Dutch are not as high as being German, but still that possibility leaves my current evidence inconclusive. The surname Peters could very well be spread throughout the germanic areas of Europe, including Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Flanders (Belgium). However, given the high number of Dutch links I've come across in my ancestry, I can't yet rule out the possibility that my Mary Peters was Dutch. 2. If you will look in Sussex Co.Va. on 1769, John & Martha Peters had son named Henry born 8-7-1769 with sister's Sally & Elizabeth who went to Tenn & then too Jackson co. Ala. Some time ago, 1-2-yr some ladies were researching him but could not agree among them self as to his birth place. That had all the right info but could not accept that he was born in Va. Some were i have the e-mail they sent but since i was following one of Henry's uncle, who was my line, I did not argue with them. Red Peters in Texas

A long time ago I made a note to myself that a John and Henry Peters both owned land in Sevier Co. I had just started research and didn't cite my source! At that time, I had no idea they might be the ones I'm looking for. But since Henry Peter's son said on his military pension application that he was born in Sevier Co., I think it is highly probable that this was them. Thanks again, Faye

    3. Hi, Kevin, Which Peters family in Franklin Co VA are you related to? I'm a descendant of Zachariah Peters (b. abt 1770) and Kesiah Lively who were married in Amherst Co VA in 1794, later lived in Franklin Co. Most of their descendants were born, lived, and died in Franklin Co. There were other Peters lines in Franklin Co-- Michael and Stephen -- and none of Zachariah's line married into the other Peters' lines. They did marry into their own family, however. The Michael and Stephen Peters' lines were German and they married other German families in Franklin Co. It is my belief (and other Zachariah researchers agree) that the Zachariah Peters' line was of British descent. Of course, this is speculation and no proof has yet been found. Zachariah's descendants did not marry into the German families in Franklin Co VA (at least not until the 20th century). I think I exchanged correspondence with Chester Peters about 25 years ago! They all seemed to have lots of children. We also have several indian women in our line, mostly Cherokee tho. We also believe that James Henry Peters(nick named "John Henry") is on the Dawes & Guion-Miller rolls. But,We haven't been able to tie all this together with paper work. My name is Kenny Peters. The above site shows my family. We found this site by accident & were very pleasantly surprised. I am interested in your new web site. I have been following this obvious PETERS origin debate going on thru the roots web letters. One of the differences in our OWN (here @ home) Geneology research & Carmen Boyd's Pages is that her earliest Abraham Peters, is our Abraham 2nd. WE have an Abraham the 1st as being born in Germany..no date..but married on 9 Feb. 1761, to (unknown) SULZBACK in Germany somewhere. They would be the parents of the Abraham Peters shown on these pages. I don't know how to get any farther back than that. BUT, we have a story that when Abraham the 1st , got off the ship, & there were too many Germans coming in to the us, so he told the Gov't he was Irish. Then, the story goes , he overheard 2 Germans plotting to rob him, & they didn't know he understood them. Anyway he managed to get away before they could rob him. (PS: or it could've been reversed, Irish/German, in the story) So we are not sure if we came from Germany or not. But i just got off the phone with my sister, she said she thought we(Abraham & wife "Sulzback" )may be from Baden, Baden, Germany. How do i research that? After the above Abraham we all agree on the following: Abraham Peters, 2nd. b 28 June 1768 in Pa, d 1842 in TN, married to a Christina(unknown) on 1 Feb 1791 - my ggg-grandfather Abraham Peters, 3rd. b 6 Jan 1810 in Greene Co. TN, d 29 Sept 1870, married Mary Magdalene Ottinger on 21 Oct 1848 - my ggg-grandfather Andrew Conrad Peters, b 23 July 1845 d 25 Feb 1922, married Mary Jane Holt ,on 13 June 1867 - my gg-grandfather James Henry Peters, b 17 Dec 1869 d 2 July 1946, married Mary Elizabeth Laffalette<(may be wrong spelling), on 12 Nov 1893 my g-grandparents Alonzo Leonard Peters , b 15 May 1905 in Pulaski Co. Arkansas,d 10 Feb 1994, married Ruth K. Kyzer, on 14 Feb 1927 (she is in Conway, (Arkansas )Regional hospital as i write this, not expected to be with us more than a month)she is 91. She knew me when i was up there a couple of weeks ago. These are my Grandparents. I don't have anything beyond Abraham Peters 1st. Thanks for any assistance. Would any of this info be of any interest on your website? Thank you very much, Kenny Peters PS: any of this sound familiar to anyone?
