I received a call last night tell me that one of my books was on line at Ancestry.com and it was complete. I checked this morning and she was correct. Some one felt very free to copy my grandfathers book and put the whole thing on line as their work. Of course they didn't use my name as having done the work. But you can believe I plan on posting any place I can on the web what this person has done. Ain't life grand. By the way the name of my grandfathers book is Just Call Me Cousin Volume II and the person who felt so free to copy the whole thing was Jeri.paradise@gene.ge.com. I do wonder also how many years it took you to obtain all of this information, or was it as simple as opening my book and taking it all from my book. If you are wondering who I am; I am Sara Kathryn Bowling McKown and all the information that you put on Ancestry.com came from my book. "Just Call Me Cousin Volume II". I know that you already know this, but I am wondering why you did it. Are you too lazy to do your own work??? Or just to stupid??? Or is it just simpler to copy someone else books and claim that you did the work. NOW I want that information removed from Ancestry.com. Anyone that see the work will know that you didn't do it. Who are you kidding. Now will get it taken off line or we will go to court and don't even think that a copywrite doesn't make a difference. Kathy McKown --part1_29.a935173.270133c4_boundary--

Is anyone searching for any of these people in Vigo Co, IN? The Peters lived there from 1875 to 1915, and the other two related families still have descendants living in the Pimento area of Vigo Co. I have quite a bit of information gathered already, and would love to share with anyone looking for these names in the Vigo Co area. Sincerely, Lucy Rowton Calfee
Lucy Where, if I might ask, is Vigo County? My wife's 2X great grandfather, George Henry Peters, left his family in Christian County, Illinois sometime after his last child was born in 1860. He was later seen, supposedly, running a diner or small restaurant in Xenia, Illinois (far Southeastern), and after that burned, is thought to have gone on to Vincennes, Ind. where he opened another restaurant). In the 1850/60 census he gave his birth as about 1811 in Kentucky. We know nothing at all about his birthplace or birth family. We've slammed into numerous dead ends on him so far, so I'm obviously grabbing at straws. At 06:39 PM 9/12/00 EDT, you wrote: >Is anyone searching for any of these people in Vigo Co, IN? I assume their son John is the same John Peters who was the administrator of the estate. The text which says "John Peters" appears to be a signature, but it is imbedded in the inventory as I have shown it, rather than being at the bottom of the inventory. p.63 There is a reference in the index to Thomas Peters. I believe the reference is in error. p.63 describes an estate sale, and I am unable to determine for sure whose estate. It was Henry Dossett, or something like that. But mostly, p.63 is a list of slaves and to whom they were sold. In reading the text, I believe that Thomas and Peter were the names of two slaves. Here is an excerpt. I believe there should be a comma between "Thomas" and "Peter", but I can't see one on the microfilm. There is definitely a larger gap between the two names than normally appears between two words. Norma W. Matthews "My Mind is Like Lightning.... One Brilliant Flash, and it's Gone...." Hi all, I'm new to this list, and have what is a puzzle to me, about some of my Peters of Anderson/Roane Co's TN. (1) Thomas and Sarah England Peters of Anderson Co TN had a son named Wesley who married Katherine Paul. Wesley and Katherine lived in Morgan Co TN. Wesley died and Katherine moved back to Anderson Co, as she is H/H in Anderson with the following children in 1860. Katherine 40, --Elijah F. 23, --James W. 19,--Sarah J. 17,--Tobitha M. 15, --Mary E. 13,--Reuben D. 10, --Rebecca A 8. Wesley and Katherine also had a son Leander J 21,who was already married to a Nancy D. 19 by this time, and also living in Anderson Co apparently next door, or very close to Katherine. However-----over in Roane Co is-- Catherine Peters 36, --Elijah F. 21, --Wiley 19, --Sarah 14, --Margaret 13, --Dowell 11, --Mary 8, --Rebecca 4 I was wondering IF this Catherine, is the Catherine Lea who married John W. Peters on 26 Jan 1841. IF this is that same Catherine then possibly Elijah was from another marriage, as he was born abt 1839. (2) As I mentioned above, there was a Leander J. Peters, s/o Wesley & Katherine who lived in Morgan and Anderson Co's TN. He and w/ Nancy listed for Anderson Co 1860. HOWEVER---Over in Roane Co is--- Leander Peters 22 (b. 1838) ,--Nancy 22(b. 1838) , another Nancy 16, ----- AND-----Isaac L. Daniel Winchester 29, Sinah N. Wyatt Winchester (wife) 40, Wm.D. 4. These Winchesters are also my directs. For them to be in the same H/H with Leander and Nancy denoted "close kin" I think. Can someone help me straighten these folks out? Thanks nmatt@mindspring.com
If you find Jane to be a daughter of John and Sallie Clay Peters please let me know. I descend through John to Jacob to Alfred to Elizabeth Alice to my father Joe Douglas to me. I would have serious doubts as to whether any of John and Sallie's children were born in Tennessee. Fae
Hi, Thank you for your help, but it isn't the right one. Most of our Peters family was from Marion County, Wv. Brenda
I have written before about my Jane Peters of Anderson County, Tennessee who married John England. She was my ggg grandmother. Her daughter Vesta Clay England who married William Cole was my gg grandmother. Vesta's daughter Sallie Jane Cole married Alva Edward Peters. Sallie and Alva Peters were my g grandparents, and are referred to by my mother as Grandma and Grandpa Peters. As you can see, there are two Peters lines involved here, the one for Alva Peters and the one for Jane Peters. I have been wondering if my Jane Peters was the daughter of John Peters and Sallie Clay. Several of you have shared very helpful private E-mails with me concerning John Peters and Sallie Clay. Most everybody has the children of John Peters and Sallie Clay listed as Oliver C. Peters, Andrew J. Peters, Thompson H. Peters, William P. Peters, Thaddeus J. Peters, and Augustus Peters, but no Jane. The only place I have ever seen a daughter named Jane in this family is in IGI data on the LDS Web site. Until now, I had only looked at the IGI data on the Web because I started researching my family about the same time the LDS Web site came online. I suspect that many or most of you have seen the actual microfilm of the IGI data sheets, but I hadn't before now. Anyway, I ordered the two IGI microfilms which included Jane Peters as the daughter of John Peters and Sallie Clay. As I suspected from what others have said about the IGI, there was additional data on the microfilm which is not on the Web site. For example, the IGI data sheets list Sallie Clay as the daughter of Mitchell Clay, m. 1800 to John Peters, son of John Peters and a Simms. I knew this (and much more!) from other sources, but the point is that this is data that was on an IGI data sheet and which did not make it onto the Web site as being associated with this particular IGI film number. But more importantly, both IGI microfilms I ordered say that Jane Peters married Andrew Johnson. One of them might have said Andrew Johnston or it might have said Andrew Johnson - it was a little hard to read - but the second one said Andrew Johnson for sure. By the way, one of the IGI microfilms gave as a source for the John Peters and Sallie Clay family the "Peters Family Film", and the other microfilm gave as a source the "Peters Family Book". I guess I don't know how to look those up. I was hoping to get back to a truly primary source. For example, I was hoping to find a reference to "The Peters Family Bible in the XYZ County Public Library". Oh, well. I suppose it's not impossible that Jane Peters married first Andrew Johnson and then married second my John England, but it seems unlikely. So I think I need to look elsewhere for Jane's parents. This is negative progress, but I think it is progress nonetheless. As Sherlock Holmes said, "Whenever you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth". There's more minor progress. After looking for over a year, I found Vesta Clay England's grave. She is buried in the New Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Also buried there in a family grouping are Vesta's daughter Ida Rhoda Cole Wells (sister of my g grandmother Sallie Jane Cole Peters), Ida's husband Philip Hancher Wells, Phillip's mother Susan Magdalene Johnson Wells, and Ida's daughter Dicy Clay Wells. Dicy died as a teenager and never married. The most interesting of these names as far as Jane Peters goes is Dicy Clay Wells. She seems clearly to have been named for her grandmother Vesta Clay England. And it's Vesta's middle name that leads me to believe that Jane Peters must come from a Peters line which has Clay connections. I have been looking for a mother or grandparent for Jane Peters whose surname was Clay. But Jane might well have named her first daughter Vesta Clay England, not based on a surname, but based on a family name, just as Dicy Clay Wells was named based on a family name. There's still more minor progress. I knew that Jane Peters died about 1881 because she is enumerated on the 1880 census and because her husband John England married for a second time in 1882. I have recently found a Pedigree Resource File entry on the LDS web site for a Jennie Peter who is clearly my Jane Peters. The entry says that Jennie Peter was born 30 Jul 1812, Anderson County Tennessee, died 9 Apr 1881, Morgan County Tennessee, buried Camp Ground Cemetery, Fentress County Tennessee. I don't know what the primary source of data for this information is (just like with the IGI), but I would guess that somebody found a tombstone at the Camp Ground Cemetery with the dates. It's about a 90 minute drive to the cemetery from my house, so I might have a pleasant Sunday afternoon drive lined up for sometime this fall. (By the way, I tend to trust the 9 Apr 1881 date of death, but I have trouble with the 30 Jul 1812 date of birth. Census data would put her date of birth at 1817/1819. I think maybe she was born 30 Jul 1817 or something like that.) But if her tombstone really says "Jennie", then that's very interesting. My second guess for her parents after John Peters and Sallie Clay is that her parents might be Thomas Peters and Sarah B. (Jenny) England. Maybe Jane Peters and her possible mother Sarah shared the nickname "Jenny". Also, I have written before that when Vesta Clay England's husband died at an early age, two of her daughters were placed in homes where the "mother of the house" was a daughter of Thomas Peters and Sarah B. (Jenny) England, Susan Emily Peters in one case and Mary A. Peters in the other. So it makes a lot of sense that Jane Peters might have been a sister of Susan and Mary. And if it's true, then my mother's Grandma and Grandpa Peters, Sallie Jane Cole and Alva Edward Peters, were second cousins. Am searching for the parents/siblings of Zachariah Peters who married Kessiah Lively on 18 November 1794 in Amherst County, VA. My research has led me to believe that the surnames Peter & Peters are interchangeable. In Amherst County VA Deeds, 1761-1807 we find the following: 7 Feb 1800. RICH. BREEDLOVE & wife MILDRED, to NELSON ANDERSON for $300, 180 acres branches S fork Rockfish. Lines: JNO. BALL, WM. KEY, Glade Road, WM. CABELL, JAS. NEVIL. THOS. KEYS. Wit: ZACH. NEVIL, ELISHA PETERS, ZACH. PETERS, CAREL EADS. This is the only evidence found so far that links Zachariah Peters to a contemporary of the same surname. Because of this, I believe that Zachariah & Elisha may be brothers or cousins. The hunt for Zachariah Peters 1st led myself & some other Peters' researchers to Amherst County, VA & a Rev. William Peter(s). According to a biography posted at ancestry.com, William Peter(s) was a minister of the Church of England who settled in VA in 1750 & who died in 1773. That same biography tells us that one of William Peter(s)' children was Elisha Peters who married Cynthia Turner on 17 February 1806 in Amherst County, VA. There is also another Amherst County marriage of an Elisha Peters to Jane Tiller on 1 June 1792. I do not know if these 2 marriages contain the same or different grooms. According to other information, the Rev. William Peter(s), father of Elisha, came from England with 2 brothers -- Richard Peter & John Peter, Jr. Another researcher has told us that Amherst County records indicate that land was purchased by William, Richard & John, Jr. in 1760. This land was in Albemarle County at the time. Can anyone tell me more about this Peter/Peters family? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for any information or guidance in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
