    3. Arthur - would any of your McDiarmid's or McDearmid's or similar spellings have migrated to Canada from Perthshire in about 1818? There are a large number of those surnames married to my Dewar's and McNie's who also came from Killin / Balquhidder / Comrie / etc. Here's the oldest complete family I think I have: Duncan McDiarmid m1 1803 Perthshire to Margaret M'Gregor (all kids were christened in Comrie) - Catherine b. 1804 Perthshire m. 1823 Canada to Alexander R Kennedy - Angus b. 1806 Perthshire m. 1835 Canada to Annie Livingston - Elizabeth b. 1807 Perthshire m. 1830 Canada to Alexander Scott - Christian b. 1810 m. 1834 Canada to Robert Kennedy - Peter b. 1811 m1 1838 Canada to Janet Livingston m2 1842 Canada to Janet McIntosh Duncan m2 5 Mar 1816 Scotland to Mary McPherson - John b. 1817 - Ann b. 1820 Canada m. 1839 Canada to Alexander Ferguson - James b. 1822 Canada m. 1841 Canada to Jane Morphy - Duncan b. 1824 - Donald b. 1826 m. 1847 Canada to Elizabeth McIntosh - Hugh b. 1829 And here's a note I have about Duncan: "Information from writings of Dr. G.E. Kidd: According to family legend, Duncan had a falling out with the Perthshire McDiarmids sometime around his second marriage to Mary, and moved the family to Skye before immigrating to Canada in 1818. He apparently never had contact with them again. On the passenger list of the Brig Curlew [sailed to Canada] he is listed with wife Mary, son John age 1 and daughter Catherine age 12. So far no one has come across evidence of the other children on any passenger list, but they were all here in the Beckwith [Ontario, Canada] census of 1820." Regards - Glen C. I was born in South Shields, but now live in Sunderland. My gt. gt. g/father was Daniel Macdearmid who was born in Killin, then married Maria Watson in the parish church St Hilda South Shields in Sept 1815. This couple went on to produce 7 dtrs and 6 sons. The surname changed to McDearmid & still remains so to this day. Daniel became a Master Mariner and he is shown as retired on the 1851 and 61 census at So. Shields, but in 10 yrs. of research I have been unable to find his date of death nor burial place. ------------------------ Are there any members of this family still in the area?....or doing research on them? If you know of them or can help in any way I'd be pleased to hear from you. Kind regards. Arthur E Burnside. ______________________________
