    3. Hi, I'm researching IRVINE in Abernyte and have been trying to find some information. Does anyone know of a web page where I might find some pictures? About all I've found so far is a painting of the old church, now an antique centre. Is there some-one who can help with a bit of local knowledge on the church and the area? Thanks Nancy Australia

    3. Hi Nancy, My great grandfather John Mackie died at Trottick farm in the parish of Longforgan in 1868 and is buried in the churchyard at Abernyte. The church and graves are on the road leading east from the village, not the antique center! I have a booklet of MIs but no Irvine therein. "The present church bears the date 1673 on the West gable but it was renovated in 1736 and altered to its present cruciform shape in 1837." A google image search for Abernyte found mainly the antique center but also www.abernyte.org and http://www.inchture.com/Abernyte.html and www.kinnaird.net/perthmap.htm The Statistical Account of Scotland at http://stat-acc-scot.edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/stat-acc-scot.asp has parish details 1791-1799 and 1845. For maps including the 1 to 25000 series use http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/ I have photographs of the church which I could scan for you. The MI booklet mentions another booklet "Olden Days in Abernyte- A Short History of a Small Perthshire Parish" The Tay Valley Family History Society http://www.tayvalleyfhs.org.uk/index.html lists P751 Abernyte, portrait of a Perthshire Village £2.50 which may or may not be the same thing.
