Hello, Doreen, and holiday greetings! Thank you for posting about this resource, which I didn't know existed. It appears to be a British website, which of course is "right up our alley". I use and contribute to family trees at Ancestry.com . I fervently believe that there has to be at least ONE resource, somewhere, which contains the family trees for most of us. Prior to the Internet, it was the archives of the Mormon (LDS) church. Since the Internet, Ancestry.com has compiled over 2 billion entries (most of them are repetitive, from multiple family lines). Frankly, it doesn't matter to me who does the compiling, but what matters most is that we have the resources available, so that a child fifty years from now will be able to look up his/her family tree without all of the agonizing detective effort we have had to endure. I salute other websites for being involved in this effort. With some websites, you contribute your materials for free, and then they go and sell the information. While all of us would prefer free genealogy, I don't have a problem with this. There are costs associated with maintaining the site and providing additional resource materials to researchers. My wife and I don't have children, so I have no interest in compiling a "private" family tree. Rather, I use the Internet resources to locate other, living, long-lost or forgotten relatives (and I've had several tearful reunions by phone over the past few years!). My interest is to document and share my heritage with as many people as possible, and with future generations. There are several online databanks. Pick one. It really doesn't matter which; so long as they are all searchable.
