    3. Patrick and Perthshire Mailing List While on the McLAREN name, I thought I'd list my McLAREN connections here, as it is a while since I have put them forward. In 1865, Catherine McLAREN nee DEWAR (1789 - 1886) wrote down her ancestry for her grandson. [If only all branches of my family had done so!] Her notes state that her father-in-law was Duncan McLAREN from Strathbraan and that he married a Margaret FORBES. The probable marriage record reads: "Kettins, county of Forfar, OPR Marriages 1774, 3 Duncan McLaren and Margaret Forbes both in this parish were proclaimed pro Feb 20th, pro 2nd, February 27th pro 3rd March 6th and married March 10th." The couple had four children, Robert, Alexander, James and "Mrs McLAREN , Balbeggie" Robert married Catherine DEWAR - "Kinfauns, 1808 Feb 27th Robert McLAREN in this parish and Katherine DEWAR were married" And again from Catherine's 1865 notes - "Robert was born at Fernlands (St. Martins ph) about 1< m. from Balbeggie; died 29/8/64. [He] was foreman at Mr. WALKER's, near Collace; then at Montague (Balbeggie); then overseer on a farm near Broughty Ferry; then gardener at Lord GRAYs, Kinfauns Castle; then at Wester Talspeddie; Airntully; and East Mains of Rossie, near Montrose." Robert McLAREN's death record reads: Death certificate reads: Robert McLAREN , Farmer, (married to Catherine DEWAR); died Aug 29th, 1864; 1h.30m. P.M.; New Scone, Parish of Scone; male aged 85 years; father Duncan McLAREN, Farmer, (Deceased); mother Margaret McLAREN, MS FORBES (Deceased); cause of death, Disease of the heart, as certified by David H Stirling, MD; informant James McLAREN, son, Whitefield, Parish of Dron; registered August 31st, Gt Scone, William Keay, Registrar. And the gravestone in the old churchyard in Scone reads: To the memory of Robert McLAREN who died 29 Aug 1884 aged 85, and his wife Catherine DEWAR who died 25 Dec 1886 aged 97; also their daughter Elizabeth died 11 Oct 1863 aged 44; also their son Andrew McLAREN who died 21 Jan 1904 aged 94, also his wife Jane MILLER died 15 Oct 1888 aged 65, and Robert their only son who died at Melbourne 28 Jan 1935 aged 78; their daughters Elizabeth Anne died 11 Feb 1941 aged 81 and Isabella Mary died 5 Jun 1942 aged 89. I have some excellent information on some branches - and virtually none on others. Any information would be gratefully received. 3. Sarah - I have a relation up in Aberdeen who wrote such a letter for his descendants in 1904. You're very lucky - it's a great treasure! In Perthshire I have some DEWAR ancestors (who hide VERY well!) and I was wondering if Catherine detailed any of that ancestry as well. Mine were primarily in the area around Comrie / Killin.
