    3. Recently joined, posting my first message. Have checked the List Archives and don't find a suitable subject for Alexander CAIRNS, who died aboard the Titanic when it sank April 15, 1912. He was a servant in First Class. A family story said my Grandmother, Agnes BRYDEN was engaged to a man named 'Alex' who died when the Titanic sank. I always thought this to be only that.....a family story. Recently, I've received a picture of this man and understand a postcard exists that he sent to Agnes. My Aunt is now trying to find this postcard which she safely tucked away for safekeeping. I want to see the Postmark for a date and see if he signed his full name. They were both residing in Scotland in 1912. While she's looking for the card, I thought I'd ask this List if anyone knows of this Alexander CAIRNS or other family. He was born Alexander Milne CAIRNS on April 19, 1883 in Kinfauns, Perthshire, Scotland to Wm CAIRNS & Margaret MILNE. Books published on the Titanic say the Alexander CAIRNS who died was the son of a Wm and a Margaret and that his middle initial was indeed M, and that he was 28 at his death. So far, so good. Have used the IGI to find siblings of Alexander, seems there were quite a few ! If current family can be found, they should know of the Titanic death, that's hardly a story to be kept a secret. The Archives of this list don't mention the word Titanic in any year. Anyone know of a way I can further look for this family ? Hopefully newspaper accounts would have mentioned a native lad who died on the infamous ship. Is anyone on this List a local to Perthshire ? I'd be quite interested in finding out where to write about newspapers in 1912. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA

    3. Dear Meg, We had a programme here a few weeks ago, don't know when it was made but it said all the bodies that they have buried from the Titanic they were exhuming graves for DNA. They have done few and are planning to DNA all if possible, it was or ABC TV. Best wishes and good luck Amanda - Sydney, NSW, Australia ---------------------------------------- > Recently joined, posting my first message.
