I m looking for any descendants of my gggrandparents, John Watterson, probably bap 14 April 1803 at Dovecoteland, Perth, and Mary Wilkie born c1807. Mary's father was James Wilkie, weaver of Shuttlefield, SCT., who married 11 Dec 1826 Elizabeth Johnston, dau of John Johnston, shipsmaster of Shuttlefield. John Watterson's parents were probably James Watterson and Isobel Kirk. Other children recorded to this couple were Robert, bap 24 March 1793 in Wellshill Isobel bap 8 March 1795 in Dovecoteland James bap 29 Oct 1797 in Dovecoteland George bap 23 Feb 1800 in Few. I cannot find the name of Elizabeth Johnston's mother. Her father was said to trade with Spain and some say he may have married a Spanish woman. My gt uncle had a portrait of a Spanish woman hanging in his hall in the early 1900s but I cannot find out who she was. John and Mary Watterson and their children emigrated to New Zealand, arriving there 17 March 1841 on the "Lady Nugent". In New Zealand John signed a document with one T by mistake so registered his name as Waterson, sometimes spelt with two Ts.
