Hi List Tom Paul writes : >I think my great-great-grandfather, Rupert PAUL married Ann TAYLOR in 1843 > in Muthill. There is another Rupert PAUL/Ann TAYLOR marriage 11 days later > in Barony, Lanark. Did couples register their marriage in both the bride's > and groom's parish? Where bride and groom came from separate Parishes the marriage was usually Proclaimed (the Scots equivalent of Banns) in both Parishes and the marriage usually took place in the Brides Parish. This still applies in these enlightened times; as for my own marriage back in 1974. The only way to check for sure, pre 1855, is to have a look at the actual OPR entries. Of course, if you know where they both came, from you could make an educated guess. Of course he/she could have been "working" in Glaschu at the time.
