Hello I'm new to the list and been waiting for RootsWeb to get organised for my subscription to come through. I am researching my 4 x great grandparents Daniel SUTHERLAND born about 1763 and Jean PATERSON or PATTERSON born 1761, both from Torryburn Fife. Being an Aussie, I would appreciate clarification as to whether the Parish of Culross, County of Perthshire in 1787 is the same as the Torryburn area of Fife in today's Scotland. I have a marriage for them registered as being in Torryburn and Culross. I would appreciate any clarification on this from anyone please. Many thanks in advance, Lynette Begg P.O. Culross is both a town and parish. The town lies on the banks of the River Forth in Fife. The reason for the confusion is that the parish came under the control of the church diocese of Perth - even though geographically and politically it lay in Fife - and quite separate from "The County of Perth". Having said that it would be worth checking both Fife and Perthshire records - see: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/FIF/parishes/Culross/ >I have a marriage for them registered as being in >Torryburn and Culross.
