    3. Last week I sent out a query to this list about places I couldn't find -- but now I've found them!!! (The query never seemed to get through, for some strange electronic reason.) At any rate, this is a cautionary tale for all researchers. My 4-great grandmother, Christian McGRIGOR, apparently lived "in Hallick" in Fortingall parish, when she married Archibald MENZIES in 1761. At least, that's what the official excerpt from GROS said some years ago. I never could find this mysterious place, though we finally thought the minister must have meant "Aulich," where there were indeed MacGregors. This past week I used Scotlandspeople and decided to go for Christian's marriage again. This time, I received a copy of the original handwritten page. And, yes, the place does look like "Hallick." But further down the same page, there's a marriage for another couple in what is obviously the same place. And THIS time the word comes out "Slattich." Ta-da!!!! The internet couldn't find this place anywhere, but my trusty Landranger map showed me "Slatich" in Glenlyon, just down the road from Innerwick, where all the family later lived. Only goes to show that the folks at GROS are just as fallible as the rest of us. Now, because of naming patterns, I think that maybe Christian McGrigor's parents must have been Duncan McGREGOR and Janet McLAURIN in Camserney, near where the River Lyon joins the River Tay. They had a daughter named Christian who was baptised 28 July 1736 in Dull parish. Is anyone else researching this family?? If so, I'd love to hear from you. Sheila in Missouri
