Hello Listers! I'm looking at an 1894 marriage cert. for one of my folks. In the area where the bride's parents' names and occupations are recorded her father is listed as John Watson, Draper and then there's a notation in parenthesis that says "reputed" and then finally deceased. The mother's name is listed as Ann Hendry, Housekeeper. No maiden surname listed. Might one assume (knowing how dangerous that can be!) that the parents never married and the father either died while the bride was still very young or, more likely, just he "flew the coop," so to speak? Or am I misinterpreting the meaning behind the "reputed" notation? All opinions/interpretations welcome! Many thanks!
