    3. Hi helia and other list members, I have used 1837.com. It's a good site however has it's limitations. I has images of the pages of BDM English index (aka St Catherines index), only. The site has the pages indexed by the first 3 letters of the surname, so if you can have multiple pages per quarter to view at 10p per page, this can add up. So this might not suit every one, there are two FREE alternatives, both have their limitations. 1.FreeBMD: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl This of course is still in progress, basicly only up to 1902. This is by the should be your first port of call. 2. The microfishe copies of the indexes, the are fre to view at many public libraries and FHC, of course depending on how upto date is the libiaries microfishe are, they may not go upto the year you require, and there is the cost of getting to the library. The once your armed with the index info ("chapter & Verse"), you can order your cert. If you are lucky enough to reside in the UK you can use the on-line ordering service. http://www.col.statistics.gov.uk/ Certs ordered by this manner only cost 7 GBP (as compared with 8.50) This service is on trail & will be opened to the rest of us, at sometime in the future. If you are lucky like me to have a contact in the UK with a scanner, you can use their address, pay with your (non-UK) credit card, and when the cert arrives in the post at thier place a week later, they can scan it (7 e-mail you the scanned copy) and/or pop it in the snail mail post. I am so glad I am 5 eighths Scot and only a quarter English (Yorkie). We have Scotland's People a cheap and fantastic service with no waiting, just pay & click you have your image. Plus all the info you get on these images, both parents, maiden names, dates of marriage..... Sorry if I am repeating what others have said but I have been away so have missed much of the thread.
