Hello, Can anyone advise which parish I should be looking in for someone who is stated (on his headstone in 1906) to have been "of Rannoch, Scotland"? His name is James ROBERTSON and he was born in Auchtermuchty in 1830. He emigrated to Australia in late 1854 and I can find no trace of him in Scotland at all! I believe his parents died when he was about 2 and he was returned to family in Perthshire to be cared for. Hence, I suspect, the "of Rannoch", on his headstone. He had siblings Ann, Catherine, John, Elizabeth and Alexander. Parents were Alexander and Elizabeth (nee CHURCHILL) Any advice would be very gratefully received. I am hoping that the 1841 or 1851 Census records may be able to help me solve this mystery, but I need to be sure I'm looking in the right place.
