    1. [PERTH] OT: a quote (I think!)

    3. Good afternoon to you all (on this blindingly bright, snowy day....) I've just been talking to a regular customer of mine in the library about family history (as he caught me sitting at the desk reading the latest issue of Family Tree <g>) and he was telling me about his research into his family. Anyway the long and short of it is, he has a number of letters written to his g-grandfather by his sister and she often includes the phrase "Bonnie man of a nar" sometimes with a second phrase "with your hands of white". This appears as though it might be a quote of some kind as it doesn't appear to make any sense in the context of the letters. However, neither he nor I, even with all the resources of a county library albeit one in East Anglia, can find it. Does anyone recognise it from anywhere? Does it pertain to some local Scottish folktale or legend? Is it a gaelic phrase? I'd be grateful for any suggestions of what it might mean or where else I could look Ta!
