My records are mainly concerned with the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee (the Bakers, Cordiners, Glovers, Tailors, Fleshers, Bonnetmakers, Hammermen, Weavers, and Dyers). However I have done considerable research into the Three United Trades of Dundee (Masons, Wrights, and Slaters). I have on record for example the names of all those who were entered as Masters in their 'Lockit Books' from the beginning of their records, around 1670, to the present day. I have also given various talks and lectures on the history of all these Trades and their effect on the growth and development of the City. The various Trades were only concerned with matters within the boundaries of the burgh and had little or no communication with anyone from outside, indeed they did all that they could to prevent outsiders from working within their jurisdiction. There were two Powries entered into the Mason Trade, a James Powrie, of 82 Peddie Street in 1896 and an Andrew Powrie in 1896. There is no other reference to either of them in the records. Sorry that I have been of so little help, but if there is any more I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask. Innes Innes A.
