Hi, Debbie-- Many thanks for this! I didn't have John, the first son of James & Bell. I had fortunately noted John and his wife Mary MCDONALD in the 1851 census, though. I think it's probably the right one, since one of his sons is named Allan (his mother's maiden name and also the name of his brother), and his age is right on. His birth place is given as Perth, not Tibbermore, but that's not surprising if his family moved to the city when he was an infant. John and Mary were married in 1834. Their children were John McDonald (1839), Alexander (1844), Allan (1845), and Christiana Cadell (1846). I'm reluctant to conclude yet that James MCGREGOR's parents were Duncan and Jean, since neither name shows up among the children. MCGREGORs turn up everywhere, unfortunately, so they may not even be related. Still, it's more data for the hopper. Thanks again, Debbie. You've given me a few new cousins and they may provide even more leads.
