    1. [PERTH] Ninewells, Fife / Forfarshire-Angus

    3. Hi, Nine wells is a name given to two locations. One in the Western side of Dundee in the Liff & Benvie, Forfarshire or Angus Parish. The Ninewells hospital is locate here today and is a tiny burgh of Dundee. The town just to the West is Invergowrie. Ninewells, Fife is an area between Abernethy and Newburgh. It is just over the line in Fife closer to Newburgh and up on a bluff looking over the River Tay. It really is a historical location of the McDuff Cross. This cross is gone to day destroyed during the Reformation, only the stone base and a few stones in a ring to protect it from farming tractors. Near it were wells, nine in all, that were part of the cross legend. There is a farm there today owned by the Bairds who also operate a B&B nwfarm@premier.co.uk. . It's name really does not indicate any village other than naming the location of the wells and site ot the cross, but one may have been born or living on the farm land there in the mid 1800's and used this name to locate it. Before about 1886 the Fife/Perth border was different in this area and you might have to look at censuses for both counties before then. Sláinte, John H.
