    3. Margaret, I assume we're talking about the family of Charles Pullar and Janet Scletter/Sclater here. I see from the IGI online that their children are recorded as - JOSEPH PULLAR c. 08 JUN 1803 Caputh ANDREW PULLAR c. 13 JAN 1805 Caputh ELSPIT PULLAR c. 16 OCT 1806 Caputh JOHN PULLAR b. 17 JUL 1808 c. 24 JUL 1808 Caputh JANET PULLAR b. 01 NOV 1810 c. 04 NOV 1810 Caputh WILLIAM PULLAR b. 17 MAR 1813 c. 21 MAR 1813 Caputh ELISABETH PULLAR b. 29 JAN 1818 c. 15 FEB 1818 Caputh There's a fair sized gap between William b. 1813 and Elizabeth b. 1818 that James would fit into very nicely, matching up with what the census says of him. My first thought is that there is no reason to think that James is not Charles's son. There are many reasons as to why his birth does not appear in the IGI. Have you checked the parish register for any sign of James? Another possibility could be that in the census it is actually another son misnamed as James who is listed there. The fact that James is mentioned in Charles's will suggests that he is likely to be a fairly close friend or relative. He could be a nephew. Although the fact that Charles doesn't specifically say James is his son doesn't mean anything in itself. I still think it likely that James is Charles's son. The only way to prove it is to get James's death certificate. See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for that. Hope this helps. I was able to confirm yesterday by viewing the Will of CHARLES PULLAR that he is indeed my gggrandfather. It was sooooooo exciting !!!!!!!!! In the Will, he referred to his son JOSEPH PULLAR, Farmer of Ladenford. Also his sons ANDREW, JOHN and WILLIAM Farmers in Ashton-in-Makerfield Lancashire. My new mystery now is JAMES. He is mentioned in the Will but not referred to as son.???? Kind regards, Margaret Simpson _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with cool new emoticons http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/myemo
