Hi Peter: Quite by accident I was on your Strathearn site yesterday. It is really interesting! Congratulations. I am interested in the Lawers (Lochtayside) history. We believe our family accompanied the Lady of Lawers (who apparently married into the Campbells) when she came from Appin in the 1600's. Our family name is Stewart but many of my ancestors used the nickname (or variations of it) combich, or McChombich, which I understand means "companion". We apparently are related to the Stewarts of Woodend (Alexander Stewart was a shoemaker who wrote much local history). Our Stewarts lived in croft called Cragganester (it is said for about 300 years) and some others were in neighbouring Balnasuim. They were buried in Lawers Churchyard. As you know, there were various waves of emigration to Canada and in the early 1800's some of these Stewart/mcCombich ancestors came to Perth County, Ontario. I am trying to connect the dots with respect to the Appin connection, and also with respect to the waves of emigration to Canada from Lochtayside. I still have relatives around Aberfeldy, as my mother came to Canada as a warbride. I would be interested in what you can tell me about Lawers in Strathearn and why that move was made. thanks, Margaret
