Helen - Have you used the BATCH SEARCH method of looking through the IGI ? Its the same IGI, but looked at very differently....by searching through each parish individually for names. This method has brought up alternate spellings and complete misspellings that the regular IGI search engine does not catch. Since you are searching Abernethy, use the URL below and select Scotland, then Perthshire, then scroll down to Abernethy. Select the year range you wish to search [births and marriages are the only offerings] and either enter the surname Taylor in the searchbox OR leave it completely blank. Entering no name in the searchbox and hitting the search button will give you the ENTIRE batch to search through - this can be dozens or tens-of-thousands of names depending on the size of the parish book that was transcribed. I realize TAYLOR is not easy to misspell, but if the handwriting was abysmal, this could have been recorded as perhaps NAYLOR or TAYLEN....you never know with some handwriting. If you don't see the years of interest listed with Abernethy, its most likely those books did not survive and thats why they can't be found.
