    1. [PERTHSHIRE] Grange of Elcho and Grange Cottage, Rhynd
    2. Brenda & Gord Anderson
    3. I am researching my McPherson family from the Rhynd area and have found both these addresses on the Census for them. I am trying to figure out what the Grange part means. I can find Elcho Castle, but where would the grange be in location to the castle. Does it mean a house, a farmshouse, and small group of cottages. I am assuming that the Grange cottage would just be a cottage, but what would it be connected to - a farm, or just in the town. He was an agricultural labourer on both Census. Living in Canada, sometimes it's hard to get a sense of what these things are. I have googled them both but to no avail. 3. HI PAM, I wonder if you could check something for me seeing as you have offered. I have a John Stoddart m: 14 July 1811 in Dunblane. ( this is where his wife came from but they resided in Muthill ). I have six children from their marriage BUT I researched through FamilySearch.com and as you will realize they are not always correct. What I have for their children is the following: William b: 27 Feb 1815 Peter b: unknown David b: 25 June 1817 James b: 11 Noiv 1818 John b: 8 Apr 1822 Thomas b: 8 Mar 1823 All born in Muthill. I feel that they are all correct so maybe, when you find the time and the inclination could you check them for me. All the best and cheers for now, Warren Stoddart On 05/10/2010, at 10:41 PM, PMR wrote: > Hello Listers > > I have Episcopal records for Muthill Baptisms from 1697-1886 and can check. > Sorry, no marriages or burials. > > Cheers > > Pam > Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia > > > - > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PERTHSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >

    3. Hi folks, The Parish of Dron has to be one of the "prettiest" parishes in Scotland. As one drives south from Perth to Edinburgh on the motorway, it cuts through the valley and then takes a left hand dog-leg turn right behind Balmanno Castle in which my grandmother was born in 1917. The river just twists and winds gently through the fertile farmland of the valley but in winter after excessive rain it can take on a completely different look with flooding in many of the fields. 3. Hi Gordon and Mark, Thanks - though while this is all so, and the references and appearances of Muschets in various documents, are really interesting, what I need to find just now are 'my' Muschets, and the only way to do that is to work backwards... so I'm on James who married Agnes McEnzie, according to the births of their children in Tulliallan. I'm speculating he (or his parents in turn) was probably from the Dunblane/Doune area because that's where most Muschets were, but he may have been from elsewhere. So anything about Mushets in the area then gives a point to work from. There are various things out there about earlier Mushets/Muschets you mention - I have seen some of those. The James Muschet (father of Henry) from whom I'm descended may have been a descendant of a servant of a Muschet household, or may have himself descended from one of the Muschet landowning families. However, I can't make leaps there, alas. :) It's a pity the Kincardine by Doune records don't start until 1691! Clearly it was a quite persistent name - I've seen the Montefixo and Montfichet possible derivations. Have to reckon, though, that it may be more likely that most Mushets around later were descendants of servants or even tenants rather than masters... All best, Jenny On 12/10/2010 13:44, Mark Sutherland-Fisher wrote: > Just to add to what Gordon has said, the Mushat/Muschet family were closely > related to the Grahams of Calziemuck in the 1600s and I have also seen them > in Aberdeenshire OPRs in the late 1600s/early 1700s. > Regards, > Mark > -- World's winds bending trees: breaths of all those who have lived flow now on the wind.

    2. J Blain
    3. Dear all, Anybody have any Muschet/ Mushet/ Muschit/ Mushat/ Musket (etc) ancestors? Mine seem to have started off in or around the Dunblane and Doune areas in the late 17th century, then went to Tulliallan where Henry Muschit was born in 1710. It's the earlier ones I'm interested in - from Henry on it's pretty well mapped, and I'll be glad to share. (He went to Ayrshire, but that's another story.) Henry's parents were James Muschit and Agnes McEnzie. Now, there's both a James Muschet and an Agnes McKenzie baptised in Dunblane, but I haven't found a marriage and think that Agnes is likely to be a little elderly to be the mother of Henry and his three siblings born after him. A problem is that the old parochial baptism and marriage records from Kincardine by Doune, where there seem to be a lot of Muschets, don't start until 1691, so there are likely to be missing Muschets there, letting alone the problem that not everybody's baptisms were registered. Thought I would throw this one out to the list, in case anybody else has an interest. (Dunblane is now in Stirlingshire, and Tulliallan now in Fife, but these were previously parts of southern Perthshire!) Jenny

    1. [PERTHSHIRE] Episcopal Records for Balquhidder, Comrie, Callander, Kilmadock
    2. Ryk & Heather
    3. Hello Group, Does anyone know if there was any Episcopal congregation in the area of Balquhidder, Comrie, Callander or Kilmadock parishes during the latter 18th century and throughout the 19th century? I know there is an Episcopal church near Edinample that dates to the early 20th century. And the OPR for Callander contains a listing of Episcopal baptisms from within its bounds for the mid-18th century. But we can find no record of any Episcopal presence in-between. Did the Episcopal community simply disappear and then reappear 150 years later or was there some continuing presence elsewhere? If so, does anyone know if any of its BMD records survive? Thanks for any help. Ryk Brown Stewarts of Balquhidder Research Group

    3. I checked the Scottish Church Records and there are no Betsy Findlays. There are a great number of Elizabeth/Elspet Findlays but only one in 1823, and she is christened in Elgin, Moray, Scotland. I checked for ten years on each side of 1823 and couldn't find any born in Cortachy, Angus. I would be checking her marriage record first to see the name of the father.
