    2. Mary Anna Paquette
    3. I am trying to find a marriage for my g-g-g-grandparents, John Murdoch and Catherine/Katherine Campbell, about 1750 possibly somewhere in Perthshire. Their first five (or possibly seven) children were born in Killin, at least according to the LDS OPR records. The first child born 15 Sept 1751 in Killin. John was ordained as an Episcopal minister in 1768 in Fort William, Lochabar, and was assigned to the Bowmore/Killarrow Church in Islay in 1769. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Mary Anna Paquette __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Mail AddressGuard http://antispam.yahoo.com/whatsnewfree

    3. Good Luck Douglas, although you probably won't see this email until you return from your journey. I think this is a great idea to share success stories of our research in locating family. Is this something that is off topic to the list? I also have recently found family in Perthshire and am in close contact with them thanks to some wonderful people on the list. 2. Barbara Neish
    3. Hello Everyone : My WYLIE family originated in the Tulliallen, KINCARDINE-ON-FORTH, Scotland area, several moving to DUNDEE and many to St. Petersburg, RUSSIA, I have the Family Tree topped with WILLIAM WYLIE & MARGARET DICKIE born about 1709 in CLACKMANNAN, Scotland. One family, at least, moved to LIVERPOOL, Lancashire, England with NORMAND YULE WYLIE born there January 1, 1839. He married JANE GLYNN in 1869. He was an ENGINEER who went to EGYPT and worked on the SUEZ CANAL & The ASWAN DAM They had the following children JANE 1871 in ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT ROBERT 1872 in FAIRFIELD,Lancashire - Married Annie SHEARER, Born Hankow, China - Annie's Father was a MISSIONARY DOCTOR MARY 1875 in BOOTLE, Lancashire HENRY 1878 in BOOTLE, Lancashire - Organist at Liverpool Cathedral- Married Emily It is thought that Normand Yule Wylie's father might have been a ROBERT WYLIE who might have been born in ENGLAND as well, however, we feel he was the one to move from SCOTLAND and that is the object of my quest to-day. We seem to be stuck at the year 1839 and so need to find the parents of NORMAND YULE WYLIE. He did not marry until 1869 and so It has occured to me that he would be a child on the early census lists in LIVERPOOL and, no doubt, living with the parents I seek. But how to check the 1841 - 1851 or 1861 census for that area? Might any of these details be known to anyone? Much Obliged Barbara Neish - Bermuda neishnook@ibl.bm

    1. [PERTH] James CHALMERS' family, Lethendy & Kinloch and Perth?
    2. Susan Hembury-Kellow
    3. Does anyone have access to the 1841 or 1851 census for Lethendy & Kinloch? And if so, I wonder if they would please do me the most huge favour and look to see if they can find my CHALMERS family there? I know that James CHALMERS and Agnes [also known as Ann] ms PARKER presumably married (though I don't know where or when, alas); they had a son, James Williamson CHALMERS, baptized at Lethendy & Kinloch in 1841 - though the Parish Record says he was actually born in Aug 1835. I've hardly been able to discover a thing about James CHALMERS senior and his wife, Agnes/Ann, (despite spending a small fortune on the Scotland's People site!), other than the fact that James senior was supposed to have been a Land Factor, and that he and Agnes/Ann had died before James junior married in Dundee in 1861. So, what I'm fervently hoping to find in the 1841 census is James Chalmers, possibly a Land Factor, plus wife Agnes or Ann, and son James then aged about 6 - and maybe other children I know nothing about (I hope so - gives me more to work on!). In all the censuses from 1881 to 1901 (by which time he was living in Dundee) James Williamson CHALMERS states that he was born in Perth - I assume that the family moved to Lethendy & Kinloch sometime between 1835 and 1841 for James senior's work. Any clues or hints at all would be greatly appreciated! Best wishes, and many thanks, Sue

From my earliest confirmed family member David CLARK m Margaret TAYLOR in Findogask,Perthshire, 18 July 1823 I have traced the "trek" to Newburgh,Fife and Dundee. From there to South Africa and now Australia. Stories of other family members have been passed down and I was,in April this year, finally able to trace my g.grandfather's eldest brother's family in Maitland,Australia. The 1881 census shows my g.grandfather living at 30 Pennycook Lane,Dundee while his brother,David is in Kent,England(no wonder I had difficulty finding him).It is believed that it was some time before 1881 that the families last saw each other although there was correspondence up to 1938. Anyway we will be meeting and I believe both branches are looking forward to it.I would like to thank the many members on the various lists who have helped this event happen. 3. Bill - I think we've got 3 separate DEWAR families who all came from that area, all in that time, and settled 3 different parts of what was to be Canada. Yours went to Nova Scotia, another went to Quebec and mine went to Ontario. I keep feeling that if we could just get a little more information about the 1700's in Breadalbane and points around there we would manage to connect all those lines together. Let's keep at it!!! N Scotia: Alexander DEWAR m. <?> M'GREGOR (they likely b. abt 1750) + had a brother Robert + had a son John who went to Nova Scotia in 1803 Quebec : Duncan DOER m. Janet M'Iver (they likely b. abt 1740) + Peter m. Christian STUART, to Chatham, Quebec in 1804 + Duncan m. Catherine BLACK, to St Andrews, Quebec in 1804 + Daniel had a son Daniel in Aberdeen + daughter + Helen m. <?> M'NIE Ontario : Alexander DEWAR m. Janet CARMICHAEL (they born about 1730) + son Archibald (1756-1831) m. Margaret FERGUSON (or GOW?) + kids Jannet, Alexander, Malcolm, John, Peter (1788-1800) + all moved to Ontario in 1818 (from Comrie, sailed from Greenock) Regards - Glen C. 3. Hello Arthur, My JOHNMAN family moved from Perthshire to Jarrow/South Shields rather later, between 1861 and 1871, probably via Aberdeen. Is your Captain McDearmid on the Lloyds list of master mariners dated 1869, produced by SOG on fiche and available at many local archives for viewing? Maybe not, if he was retired. http://www.nationalarchivist.com/ has an index of Deaths at Sea. Searching the index is free but you have to pay £6 to look at up to about 10 images of the original records within 30 days. It is a commercial site which has done a deal with the National Archives to put certain data on-line in a searchable form. Like 1837online, you need to get djvu viewer. In the period around 1870 there was a fashion, at least in some newspapers, of abbreviating Mc and Mac to M' so you might find he was M'Dearmid or other spelling such as M'Diarmid. Jeff

    3. Arthur - would any of your McDiarmid's or McDearmid's or similar spellings have migrated to Canada from Perthshire in about 1818? There are a large number of those surnames married to my Dewar's and McNie's who also came from Killin / Balquhidder / Comrie / etc. Here's the oldest complete family I think I have: Duncan McDiarmid m1 1803 Perthshire to Margaret M'Gregor (all kids were christened in Comrie) - Catherine b. 1804 Perthshire m. 1823 Canada to Alexander R Kennedy - Angus b. 1806 Perthshire m. 1835 Canada to Annie Livingston - Elizabeth b. 1807 Perthshire m. 1830 Canada to Alexander Scott - Christian b. 1810 m. 1834 Canada to Robert Kennedy - Peter b. 1811 m1 1838 Canada to Janet Livingston m2 1842 Canada to Janet McIntosh Duncan m2 5 Mar 1816 Scotland to Mary McPherson - John b. 1817 - Ann b. 1820 Canada m. 1839 Canada to Alexander Ferguson - James b. 1822 Canada m. 1841 Canada to Jane Morphy - Duncan b. 1824 - Donald b. 1826 m. 1847 Canada to Elizabeth McIntosh - Hugh b. 1829 And here's a note I have about Duncan: "Information from writings of Dr. G.E. Kidd: According to family legend, Duncan had a falling out with the Perthshire McDiarmids sometime around his second marriage to Mary, and moved the family to Skye before immigrating to Canada in 1818. He apparently never had contact with them again. On the passenger list of the Brig Curlew [sailed to Canada] he is listed with wife Mary, son John age 1 and daughter Catherine age 12. So far no one has come across evidence of the other children on any passenger list, but they were all here in the Beckwith [Ontario, Canada] census of 1820." Regards - Glen C.
