    1. [PERTH] Blair, Aberfoyle
    2. L. Bousbaine
    3. Over Christmas my aunt passed on to me some family documents and I'm now trying to track down related leads. My ancestor Catherine Blair is supposed to have been born around 1763 at Inversnaid (Buchanan parish, Stirlingshire) to an Andrew Blair from Aberfoyle. His family is supposed to have been around Loch Ard for several generations. Catherine's mother may have been a descendant of Rob Roy McGregor (the geographical area concerned is certainly correct for a McGregor connection). A later generation in the family mentions a cousin Andrew Blair who held the lease to the Rowardennan Hotel and who family members visited regularly. I've been able to track down this Andrew Blair as having died on 10 Nov 1876, age 78, with his parents named as Andrew Blair and Agnes Blair. He is buried at Aberfoyle and the MI appears among those published by the Scottish Genealogy Society. Andrew Blair (younger) married Elizabeth Stewart in Kippen/Aberfoyle around 1823/1824 and they had a number of children born in Callander/Buchanan who I have been able to trace at hotels in Inversnaid, Rowardennan, Callander and Aberfoyle, and who are also buried at Aberfoyle. Based on this, Andrew Blair (who m. Agnes Blair) may then be a brother of my Catherine Blair. I'm now looking at the Blairs in Aberfoyle in general to see how/if they connect and would like to hear from anyone else related to these Blairs. Any info specific to my relatives of course will be particularly welcome! Thanks. 3. Dear Nelda, Welcome to the Perthshire list and a Happy New Year to you. Maybe others, with more information than I have, have already replied, but I don't want to leave you without any response. First of all, the birth might have been recorded in the records of the local parish church, even though the Church of Scotland was Protestant. You can look for this on-line at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ which will cost you £6, about $10. Secondly, the person you are researching seems to be in the Worldconnect database at Rootsweb, and the submitter might have more information for you. Go to http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=steedfamilytree&id=I120 Alan Cairnie Perth, Ontario > Happy New Year to all... > I'm new to your list. 3. About your George MENZIES, the second husband of Mary. I suspect he is from one of my Menzies families, but further down the line. John MENZIES, son of John MENZIES and Betty MCGREGOR of Tominteold, was baptised 26 November 1791 in Dull parish. He married Elizabeth ANDERSON around 1824. He, and his brother Robert, along with their father, John, were in Perth in 1841. He was listed as a wright and lived on Leonard Street. His children were: John, 1825; Thomas, 1827; Ann, 1829; Janet, 1832; Alexander, 1834; John, 1838. There is (or was) a monument for this family in the Greyfriars cemetery in Perth. Perhaps your George was the son of Thomas, Alexander or John. My ancestor was Robert, so I haven't pursued this family further forward. Sheila Carthage, MO
