    3. Just curious but is there any site that tells how to pronounce the names of the cities in Scotland? From watching Monarch of the Glen: Pitlochry is pronounced Pit-lock-ree not Pith-low-kree as the local genealogy "expert" says. Logierait and Alyth are two of the placed that I would like to know how to pronounce correctly. 2. I do have Lundie though it is Angus, not Perth but there are none by that surname. I have been to that graveyard James McNab in Crieff, w Janet Arnott 23.8.1880 101y 5m (Ed:see Porteous, Crieff pp 183 & 225) no Mcnab at Monzie taylors are found in graves even the decorations are listed and the conditions of the stones, old stones usually had only initials...the first one had first one in parenthesis is because it is badly worn or impossible to read. they usually then refer to an earlier book of MIs to find missin information. These little books have a map of each cemetery, notes incluing what records exist for each parish including the bios for parish ministers and books on local history. They are worth their weight in gold, and a partial list of wills for each parish. check scottish documents website for an online searchable index. a:38 emblems of mortality I [T]. 2. Iris
    3. I see that Perth Wellshill Cemetery is shown on Mary's list in the above volume of MIs. My gggrandparents, John and Mary Watterson lived near there, I believe. I would be very grateful if you could look to see if there is a Watterson on the list for that cemetery. That is all I wish to know as it is difficult to find anything about that family. They emigrated to New Zealand with their children and Mary's widowed mother, Elizabeth Wilkie, arriving here on the 17 March 1841 on the "Lady Nugent". I thought that they may have had children who died, or John's parents may have been buried there. Thank you very much in advance, Mary. Iris from Auckland, New Zealand

    3. Heather, Thanks for your kind offer! Could you please do a lookup on the following: Auchterarder: Robert Mailer b. 24 November 1824 (age abt. 26 - 27) Parents are John Mailer & Mary MacFarlane, ages unknown John Smith b. about 1798(age somewhere around 50 +/-) Wife Elizabeth Robertson b. 1798 John Smith, b. 1827 (age abt. 23 - 24) Wife Clementina (Lamont/Lamond) Smith, Oct. 1829 (age 21 - 22) Also I am very interested in the Low name in Little Dunkeld. If the opportunity is present for you to look into that name, it would be great. However, there could well be a large number of Lows and I would not want to intrude upon your time should that be the case! If you ever need anything here in NYC, do let me know. 2. I just wanted to thank Heather for her kindness in doing look-ups and to the other on the list who go out of their way to help others. My parents taught me that when you have something positive to say you should do it in front of as many people as posible just as the reserse is true...say negative things in private. Heather looked up my Powries and I am grateful for having them. It is a rare name. I have the MIs (monument Inscription books mainly pre-1855) for East Perthshire Volume 1, which includes 1. There is a main index in the back and a small index for each cemetery but neither have first names so in order to find a particular grave i must look up each stone....which I don't mind unless someone askes for every mcdonald in Perth and Angus....... They were done by the Scottish genealocal society in Edinburgh and are fairly inexpensive if you want a whole surname. I reasearched a whole surname and less than 1% of the people buried in a cemetery had stones so consider a tombstone a gift,( it is easier to win the lottery) rather than expecting to find one......don't want to get your hopes up but I will look. you can ask the local council, parks dept. for the record, if you have the full death date since the cemetery records are not computerized.....but you have to know which cemetery and the full death date.... the books are huge.
