Good Morning All: I would like to post my interest in this family: Through the IGI and their gravesite, here in Canada, I have determined the following: James CAMERON, christening date Apr. 4, 1787, Weem, Perth Helen DRON, born June 6, 1782, Perth, Perth. Marriage Date: 1809. 2 children: John CAMERON, born abt. 1823, in Fortevoit, Perth. (I have other information that states John was born in Fowlis, Fife). John married Elizabeth ??, 30 Dec. 1842 in Beath, Fife. Margaret CAMERON, born 22 March, 1814, christened 17 March, 1814, Forgandenny, Perth. Margaret married David WATT, 1839 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Information states John came to Canada around 1848, and I would assume that James and Helen, Margaret and David probably came at the same time. James, Helen, Margaret and her husband, David Watt are buried together here in Canada. I'm new to researching in Scotland, and would appreciate any help or advice in finding out more about these people, as well as confirming some dates. Colin, Balgay Cemetery (also known as the Western Necropolis) is still in use and is managed by Dundee City Council. All the lair and interment registers are held by them (see http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/a-z/c011.htm ). You will supply a date of death for them to be able to identify the right grave. From that they should be able to tell you who else is buried there. MIs for Perthshire, Fife, Kinross-shire and Angus (inc. Dundee) are being recorded by Tay Valley FHS. We currently survey 2 churchyards per year, which are then published. Our bookshop stock these and also those published by other societies relating to the area.. My gggfather Alexander CUMMING born 25 Dec 1809 at Milton of Strathbran, Little Dunkeld married Elizabeth KINLOCH on 15 Dec 1839 at Fowlis Wester. Elizabeth was born 21 Oct 1821 at Methven 21 Oct 1821, dau of John and Christina (nee Sword) of Methven. Alexanders' parents were John and Jean (nee Stiven) of Crieff?. Two offspring of Alexr and Elizabeth died young, and the rest (10) shifted to NZ in approx.1870. The earlier maternal Methven born relatives were: John Gorrie b.1720, Janet and Elizabeth Gorrie both b. 1745. Does anyone have any information of any of these families, especially the earlier paternal relatives of the Cumming or Stiven families, otherwise I'm lost for where I can look. Hello there I've been catching up some of my old unread Perthshire digests. Maybe someone else has answered in the meanwhile. Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ then use the Gazetteer to find Perthshire then Dunkeld. Click the down-arrow on the map to shift the centre of the area. Look at the enlarged view. Follow the railway south-east through Birnam and you find Torwood Lodge and then Torwood just to the north of it, south of a bend in the Tay. Grid Ref: 302989,742200 seems to be the centre of this map, but may need to move South from that. I will try to send you a direct link, Kaye.
