Hi In case you hadn't noticed, the mail has been a little skimpy lately! The server this list uses at Rootsweb had some issue and was off-line. It's fixed now and up and running. Any mail that was sent to the list while it was broken should now come through to the list (Rootsweb held all the mail while they fixed the server, and no, I have no idea how they do that!). Usually if there is a problem Rootsweb will have the current mail come through, and feed the held mail in a little at a time so nothing is overloaded. The digests might be a little confused during this period, so remember to check the archives if you are concerned you might have missed something. Here is a link for the archives to show July's mail in chronological order: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PERTHSHIRE/2004-07?mode=chronological&with=names&with=dates&.submit=Redisplay&.cgifields=with Pam Arnold List Admin
Hello list, I just arrived on the list. I am researching McKay at Blairgowrie. I would very much appreciate a look up for Daniel McKay and wife Catherine. Also, for Richard McKay and his wife Sarah. Thank You Catherine
My Great Granny was Christina Kennedy, always known as Dewar. She was the illegitemate child of James Dewar and Margaret Kennedy, however on her marriage certificate in 1882 she put her mother's name as Janet. I have the Kirk Session Minutes proving this. Christina was born 5th February 1859 at New Inver, Tullipowrie, Logierait and James Dewar was residing at Pitcastle, Logierait in 1858 and Ardunaig, Killin in 1860. According to Christina's marriage certificate, James Dewar is a mason. James Dewar had a further illegitimate child, admitted in Kirk Session Minutes, he was a James Clark, known as Dewar born to Janet Clark on 22nd December 1859 in Killin. James Dewar did not marry either of these two women. Not exactly a clean living young man!! I have named him the "Tayside Tomcat" I have Christina in the 1881 Census working as a domestic servant in a hotel at Amulree and Crieff Road, Dull. I am looking for any clues as to both James Dewar's and Margaret Kennedy's parentage. I have the 1851 Census Index for Logierait and there are only 2 Margaret Kennedy's, one is aged 2 and the other 6. Logierait 7/8/33: - If it is the 6 year old, then she was only 15 when she had Christina! Her parents were: - James and Catherine. Does anyone have these people in their family, or have access to the 1861, 1871 census so that I can put a further fix on them? Your help would be appreciated as these are my "brick wall" Heather J

http://www.geocities.com/dundee_howff/main.htm produces a message This GeoCities site has been deactivated due to inactivity. A google search found http://www.dundee-howff.info/ which has an index of surnames and numbers of relevant stones. No given names in the index so all stones have to be viewed in searching for an individual. eg Kidd has 9 stones, none of which are for William Kidd & Agnes Rattray. Both are buried at the Howff. Not unusual of course to lack a stone. Is there another www site that has an index including full names??

Hi all, I've been back to the A.K.Bell Library and had a further look for Patons in the city's burial registers. The period covered is now 1794 - 1886, and all entries can be viewed at my website on http://chrispatonscotland.tripod.com/id64.html. I've also revamped my site, and renamed it as "A History of the Perthshire Patons". The burial registers are the start of an expanded look at Patons in the city, beyond my own line, and in the near future I intend to start adding further pages on Paton census entries in Perth. The home page can be found at http://chrispatonscotland.tripod.com/. All comments welcome, and don't forget the guest book!!! Chris
