I would be very grateful if someone would check census data for 1851 for William Smeaton?
In 1805 Lieut Kenneth SCOBIE of the Royal Marines had his daughter Elizabeth baptised in Kilmadock.Although his grandfather the Rev William SCOBIE came from Perthshire (where?) Kenneth had been raised in Sutherland. At this stage he was on half pay from the British Navy. Was he visiting relatives? I noticed a Walter SCOBIE had a son around this time baptised in Kilmadock. The following year Kenneth's daughter Mary Ann (Maria Anna) was baptised in Dunblane.(my ggg grandmother) William. James & John SCOBIE also had children baptised around this time. Does anyone know anything about these families? Many thanks Judy Qld Australia
Hi Listers from New Zealand, I am interested in knowing if there is anyone researching the following, THOMAS MCDONALD born abt 1768-1771 Blairgowrie who married Katherine McIntyre about 1793. Some of their children were; THOMAS 1794 Blairgowrie. JAMES 1796 JANNET 1797 WILLIAM 1798 JOHN 1800 ALEXANDER 1803 Using the naming pattern Thomas's father would possibly be Thomas and would possibly be born 1730s-1740s, father not a Thomas. I have compiled the Blairgowrie Mcdonalds in the Batch Numbers on the IGI and there is a large gap where the generations born 1740 to 1780's are missing from the records. Is there anyone please who has researched in this gap, obviously in the original records. Any help or suggestions welcomed, Thanks, Jan Robb.
I would be very grateful if someone would check census data for 1851/61 or 71 for George BRUCE and family. The address I have for him in 1864 is 1 Union Street, Perth. In 1873, at the time of is death, the address I have for him is 24 Barrack Street, Perth Many thanks Dorothy

Hello again! In this message I am searching descendants of Mary Ann MELVILLE. She is the sister of Isabella MELVILLE mentioned in Digest #172. Mary Ann MELVILLE was b. 1834, Rattray, to parents Charles MELVILLE and Mary DUFFUS. Mary Ann married William Kilgour ROBERTSON in Rattray in 1858. Mary Ann MELVILLE and William Kilgour ROBERTSON had ten children that I know of. The first two were born in Coupar Angus and the remaining were born in Blairgowrie. The children: Mary DUFFUS ROBERTSON, 1859; Julia SHAW ROBERTSON, 1860; William ROBERTSON, 1862; Alexander ROBERTSON, 1864; Catherine CATTNACH ROBERTSON, 1866; Agnes FARQUHARSON ROBERTSON, 1867; baby ROBERTSON, 1869; Charles MELVILLE ROBERTSON, 1871; Robina ROBERTSON, 1873; George ROBERTSON, 1874. In the Blairgowrie Census of 1891 and 1901 this family is listed as bakers. They were located on High Street. My connection to Mary Ann ROBERTSON (nee MELVILLE) is through the DUFFUS line. Within the past five years I had the vandalized burial stone of Charles MELVILLE and Mary DUFFUS repaired and righted. Nothing would please me more than to receive information regarding this family. Thanks to the list, Marge.
Does anyone on the list have any information that might help this gentleman? Pam -----Original Message----- From: Ian Buxton [mailto:ian@edinburghconsultancy.com] Sent: Sunday, September 26, 2004 5:30 AM To: pparnold@earthlink.net Subject: Perthshire information Hi I saw your site and wondered if you could help at all. I am looking for information on the Tomdachoille Distillery of Tomdachoille, near Pitlochry, Perthshire. It was operated in the 19th century by a company called Charles Duff & Co (1816-52); Duff & Co (1860-67) and by John Duff in 1878. Would you have any information on the Duff family or this distillery operation? Many thanks. Ian Buxton

Has anyone any information on the family of William DOW, shipowner, of Perth, Scotland (born Perth 1798?, date of death unknown) and his wife Elizabeth ('Betsy') KENNEDY (born Perth 1808?, date of death unknown) and their younger son (third child) Thomas Kennedy DOW (born Perth 1842)? They vanish from Perth in or after 1852, and may have emigrated to Australia. Their elder son and second child, James DOW (born Perth 1839, died Springburn, Glasgow 1911) was my Great Grandfather. I would like to be able to contact the descendants of James's son William DOW (born Strathbungo, Glasgow 1883, died Dover, Kent 1958) and his wife Mary ('Polly') Macarthur (born 1882?, died Worthing, Sussex 1963?). (made an honest woman of her as the saying went) So after all that this Grace was of age to marry circ 1787. Hope this helps Guy
Hello I have Scrimgeours and McFarlanes in my tree but all in Grandtully, Parish of Dull Kay
Hello Elizabeth, I do not have the Carr family. However the Fife Death Register shows my GGGrandfather as John McFarlane a farmer in Dunkeld, wife as Grace SCHRIMGER. Apparently an archaic spelling of the modern SCHRIMGEOUR. I do not have further info but this may provide a line to the Scrimgeour family. Regards Guy
Douglas, You made my heart skip a beat with your email, and then when I read and re-read it I realized the dates are wrong, but I'm writing anyway! Your isp won't accept my earthlink email so I'm writing the list. My grandfather, John Munro Macpherson, born Errol 1888, had a sister Anne/Nan who married Donald MacKenzie around 1920. They had 3 children, Donald, Alan, and a daughter Joyce. My grandfather and other family members trickled into the US around 1910. Joyce was a teacher in Hong Kong. think that Alan & Donald emigrated to Canada. Donald married a Dorothy ? Is there a chance these Mackenzie's are related to yours? Pam Arnold > I''m looking for information on Alan MacKenzie, youngest son of Donald > MacKenzie and Annie Bruce, b 23.1.1889 in Meigle. The family ran the post > office in Meigle. Alan arrived in New York City on 25.6.1805
Sometime between 1867 and 1871, David Carr and his wife Catherine (nee Cochrane) left Perth for New York. With David and Catherine was their son, Ollfander. Two more sons,John and Peter, were born in New York but the family had settled in San Francisco by 1880. A daughter, Helen Cochrane Carr was born in 1871. Helen (Nellie) was sent home to live with the Scrimgeour/Carr family in Perth. at a young age. Would be grateful for further information regarding this family. Elizabeth
