    1. Tibbermore Research: MCGREGOR
    2. Jim Polson
    3. Hi, Debbie Thanks for the offer. If you should run across a James MCGREGOR, blacksmith at the Huntingtower bleachfields, I'd appreciate a shout. He married Isabel (Bell) ALLAN from Perth in 1807, and they then located in the city. They seem to have been Dissenters, so I haven't found anything in the Tibbermore OPRs, although their children are recorded in the Perth OPRs. I suppose if you're looking at censuses, 1807 is going to be a bit early for you. Still, if something should catch your eye . . . . . Jim Polson Vancouver > I'm conducting research into the parish of Tibbermore, and especially the > Ruthvenfield/Huntingtower area. As such I will be making frequent use of > census/OPR etc info for the area. > If anyone has anything they would like me to check for them in the course > of this, feel free to get in touch, and I will do my best to help. > I have no family links in Tibbermore myself, my interest in based on the > fact that I live there. > Regards, > Debbie Murray

    2. Dear Listers, I have a note that my 4th great grandmother was also married by the Rev. Duncan McFarlan(e) at the Gaelic Chapel (or is it a church) in Perth. Could anyone please tell me whether it is/was a church or a chapel and if a church - is it the main /parish church in Perth or a subsiduary. Also is it dedicated to any Saint? Is their a cathedral in Perth? How might a Gaelic Chapel be different from a Presbyterian church? Regards to any would be teachers, Jas Hawkins.

James Anderson, residentor at Tomnagrew in the parish of Little Dunkeld and Jean Stewart in St Pauls Church Parish of Perth, daughter to James Stewart residentor there - Deacon James Stewart - The persons before named were regularly Proclaimed and married the twenty forth day of July said year (1815) by the Reverend Duncan Macfarlane, Minister of the Gaelic Church in Perth. 3. Hello, I am interested in the Fisher surname in the 1841 and 1851 census for Gilmerton. I understand that Gilmerton would be in the Fowlis Wester parish. Does anyone have the census info for that parish? I would like to request a lookup for the Fisher name. My gr grandparents Peter and Christian (Gowans) Fisher left Gilmerton in around 1840 and went to New Monkland, Lanarkshire, but I would like to check any connections in Gilmerton since I'm having no luck getting any information on Peter's parents/siblings. Thank you very much. Ruth --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? vote.yahoo.com - Register online to vote today!

    3. Malcolm - have any of your family lines migrated to Canada (or simply disappeared from their homes!)? In particular I am connected to some families in Ontario in the 1800-1850 timeframe. They mostly sailed from Greenock and came from places in Perthshire such as: Edinample, Loch Earn, Balquhidder, Blairmore, Edinchip, Glen Artney, Lawers, Comrie, Drumnacail, Dull, Dundurin, Dunkeld, Killin, Kinnell Dochart, Strathyrn. Surnames include: DEWAR, FERGUSON, COMRIE, McLAUREN, McNIE, STEWART, KENNEDY, BUCHANAN, McEWEN and a few others. Any possibilities? Regards - Glen C. 1. Help! ALLISON/ALISON of Kinnoull and Perth.
    2. Hello Listers, I've just subscribed to your list looking for help. What else! I am trying to research my fouth great grandmother's family. Her name is spelt Christian ALISON on the IGI and ALLISON on her marriage documents. She was born 7 Oct, bap. Kinnoul 11 Oct 1779. On the IGI I have found 4 siblings all baptised at Kinnoull; Peter, Katherin, Jean and Jane, Their parents were Charles ALLISON, (described as Merchant of Perth on Christian's marriage docs.) and Janet WATSON married in Perth on 31 Dec 1765. Christian married Samuel HAWKINS a Sergeant in the 72nd Highlanders at the time stationed in Perth after spending 18/19 years posted in India. Married 11 Feb 1799 at the Gaelic Chapel, Perth. He was soon retired, and took his bride home to Gloucestershire. That is all I know of this family. Please! Can anyone help? Either anyone with this family in their pedigree or anyone interested. ALISON/ALLISON seems a relatively common name in the Perth area and I don't want to make the mistake of choosing the wrong individuals. My best regards to one and all, Jasper D. HAWKINS of St. Ives, Cornwall

    1. Re: [PERTH] Carr Family
    2. In a message dated 9/21/04 12:51:27 PM Pacific Daylight Time, ehad@xtra.co.nz writes: Sometime between 1867 and 1871, David Carr and his wife Catherine (nee Cochrane) left Perth for New York. With David and Catherine was their son, Ollfander. Two more sons,John and Peter, were born in New York but the family had settled in San Francisco by 1880. A daughter, Helen Cochrane Carr was born in 1871. Helen (Nellie) was sent home to live with the Scrimgeour/Carr family in Perth. at a young age. Would be grateful for further information regarding this family. Elizabeth Hello, Elizabeth! Sorry to be so late in this reply. And perhaps you already have this information, but here is what I've been able to find about your David Carr family in 1870-1880 America: The following is from the U.S. Federal Census for 1880, San Francisco, California (Enumeration District 145, Supervisor's District 1, page 14 B in the register (Image 14 of 19 online at Ancestry.com): "David Carr, white male, 38, married, birthplace Scotland [no occupation given] "Catherine, white female, 38, wife, married, keeping house, birthplace Scotland "Ollfander, white male, 13, son, single, at school, birthplace Scotland "John, white male, 9, son, single, at school, birthplace New York "Peter, white male, 6, son, single, at school, birthplace New York Address: 502 Jessie Street, San Francisco (this is presently a central San Francisco neighborhood, "South of Market [St.]", in current local jargon). It's almost on the corner with 6th St., and only 2-3 blocks from City Hall and the San Francisco Civic Center. I live near San Francisco, in Napa Valley, so I know the area, generally. Also at address #502 were two other families, German (Prussian) immigrants, suggesting an apartment house/boarding house living arrangement. Or "flats", as you in NZ might call them. It's mainly a commercial neighborhood today, but there are some residential parts. In 1880, it probably was middle-class residential. In a search of New York Immigration Passenger Lists (online at Ancestry.com) I found: a "David Carr" , age 22, born Scotland, arriving 18 June 1867 on the "Tarifa" from Liverpool; and a "Mrs. David Carr", age 29 arriving 29 July 1870 (accompanied by her son, Alexander, age 3), from Scotland, aboard the "Dorian", from Glasgow. (There was also an Ellen Cochrane, 24, from Scotland, and her son Alexander, 4 on the manifest! Could it be a relative of your Catherine Cochrane??). My interest is on the son of Mrs. David Carr. With such an unusual name as Ollfander, it's very possible that the ship's captain listed his name as "Alexander", instead. His age of "3" and his birthplace, makes him very likely to be the one and only (I found no "Ollfanders" in the Index). I'll try to send you the original images, in a file, if you want them. I have an annual subscription to Ancestry.com and most of their databases and online microfilm files. I'm not related to you---my family line in Perthshire, Scotland is Robertson, Drummond and Brown---but I've had such wonderful cooperation from other members of this online GenWeb community, that I'm anxious to "pay back" for all of the wonderful help which has come my way. If you need more searches from US Censes or Passenger Arrivals in America, please don't hesitate to ask. Warm regards---and best of luck, ---Bob (Robert Drummond) Robertson Napa Valley, California

    3. More from a document written 1892 'History of the McLarens of Stank, Kernock and Toman', by Donald McLaren. This follows the text more directly than last night's post. One of the progenitor couple's daughters married a McAlpin, another a McLaren, Auchleskin - this is represented by 'NN MCALPIN/MCLAREN [Auchleskin]' Anyone know who Robert 'Laith' MCLAREN who m Christian McLAREN in 1809 was? Janet Drummond was having kids over a period of 25 years in a house that was described in the text as hardly fit for human habitation! What would that mean to our softened sensibilities now? 3. What follows is a little speculative. It an extrapolation from a document written 1892 'History of the McLarens of Stank, Kernock and Toman', by Donald McLaren. It is based on the comment regarding the writer's grandmother Catherine's stated relation to various individuals. Corrections and additions most welcome.
