Hell again List, If you would like more information on my book, go to my web site at: www.JoanWheelerLaGrone.com. Joan
Hello List, I will be in Perth on the 13th of November at the Perth Library from 11:00 to 2:00 for a book signing for my new book " Edmonstone Chronicles, Royal Knights and Scottish Kings". The book has received good reviews and is a history of Scotland as told through the Edmonstone Knights from 1063 to 1750. The Edmonstone Knights served the Kings of Scotland and married two of their daughters. Sir James Edmonstone, Newton of Doune, carried the Royal Standard for James VIII at Sheriffmuir November 15, 1715. This battle is discribed in the book. Hope to see many of you there. Joan La Grone

Hi Jim, I spent this afternoon looking through the OPR for Tibbermore, and came up with the following: Marriage record: James McGrigor in this parish and Isabell Allan that of Perth, three weeks of banns marked on June 21st 1807, marriage marked on June 25th 1807. one child is registered in Tibbermore, presumably they moved after this point: 31st March 1808 - James McGrigor, smith of Huntingtowerfield, and his spouse Isabel Allan, had a son born in Christ and baptised this date, called John There is no mention in the register of the family being Dissenters at this point, but from a look at the other McGregor/McGriegor names in the OPR, he could well have links to Dissenting families. The following details are the offspring of the only McGriegor couple mentioned in Tibbermore until James and his wife: 19th Sept 1779 - Duncan McGriegor and his spouse Jean Livingstone had a child baptised called Margaret 2nd Dec 1781 - Duncan McGrigor in Burngrange and his spouse Jean Livistone had a child baptised called John 15th Feb 1784 - Duncan McGriegor in Tofthouses and his spouse Jean Livingstone had a child baptised called Alexander 25th Apr 1786 - Duncan McGriegor in Burngrange and his spouse Jean Levistone had a child baptised called Elizabeth 28th Dec 1788 - Duncan McGriegor in Tofthouses and his spouse Jean Livingstone had a daughter baptised called Ann I didn't find an entry for the birth of James McGregor himself, but it would seem a fairly good bet that these are his parents and siblings. Another possible link is the presence of an Elizabeth Livingstone, possibly a sister of the aforementioned Jean, married to an David Buchan of Gloagburn. Four of their children are mentioned in the register, all of whom were baptised by seceded ministers: Isobell - registered by parents request 3rd Mar 1771 Margaret - registered by parents request 19th Oct 1772 (both baptised by Rev John Wilson, seceding minister at Methven) Elizabeth - registered 24th Feb 1777 (baptised by Rev Brown, seceding minister in Abernethy) James - registered 10th Aug 1780 (baptised by Rev John Wilson, seceding minister at Methven) There are three other, later mentions of the name McGrigor: 4th Nov 1809 - John McGrigor and spouse [Kathryn?] Clark had son born called John [note in margin - "anabaptist"] 9th Sep 1810 - Duncan McGrigor at Ruthvenfiled and his spouse Margaret McIntyre had a son born in Christ and baptised this date named David 20th Aug 1812 - John McGrigor of Ruthvenfield and his spouse Charlotte Brown had a child born in Christ and baptised this date called Robert Low I hope this is of some use to you, and I'll keep an eye out for any other likely looking links. Hi, Debbie-- Many thanks for this! I didn't have John, the first son of James & Bell. I had fortunately noted John and his wife Mary MCDONALD in the 1851 census, though. I think it's probably the right one, since one of his sons is named Allan (his mother's maiden name and also the name of his brother), and his age is right on. His birth place is given as Perth, not Tibbermore, but that's not surprising if his family moved to the city when he was an infant. John and Mary were married in 1834. Their children were John McDonald (1839), Alexander (1844), Allan (1845), and Christiana Cadell (1846). I'm reluctant to conclude yet that James MCGREGOR's parents were Duncan and Jean, since neither name shows up among the children. MCGREGORs turn up everywhere, unfortunately, so they may not even be related. Still, it's more data for the hopper. Thanks again, Debbie. You've given me a few new cousins and they may provide even more leads. I just wanted to a public thank you to Andy, who answered my posting on Stewarts in Luncarty - he made some suggestions and put me in touch with an old friend, David, who turns out to be one of the Stewarts I have been hoping to connect with. It turns out that David knows more about the family connections than we realised. I know Andy enjoyed helping me out, I enjoyed "meeting" him, and hope I can return the favour some day. G'day folks I am looking to see if anyone on the list may help me with information, on the birth and parents and siblings of Catharine FERGUSON who married John STEWART , 1 Aug 1780 in Callander thanks in advance regards Malcolm
Hi all Here are the details I have for my Robertsons in Perthshire.... James Robertson, weaver, baptised in Perth 10 June 1810, married Agnes Stark on 5 March 1841 at Renfield Church, Barony Glasgow, died in Tibbermore Poorhouse 30 March 1882 after ten months paralysis. Son Robert reported death - he was living in Baker Street, Stirling. Agnes Robertson, my great great grandmother, was born to John Stark and Janet Smith in Cadder LKS and died on 11/08/1863 at 212 South Street, Perth of general debility. The couple were both weavers and had three children: John born 8 March 1845 in South Street, Perth Robert born 19 February 1847 at Shuttlefield Close (weaving area) Agnes born 24 December 1849 at Canal Street James' parents were James Robertson (gardener) and Margaret McKenzie who married in 1806. Four children: Elisabeth b. 1806, James b. 1810, William b. 1813, Robert b. 1815 - based on census information. Robert married Isabella Small in 1879 and in 1881 census they're in Stirling with 6 month old son Robert. Looking forward to anyone who can connect with this family and/or me. rgds Caroline This communication is for informational purposes only. Dear Steve That'll be Dunbarney with an 'n' to give it its more usual modern name. Centred on Bridge of Earn, a few miles south of Perth. Googling for Dunbarney will give you something, and of course the Statistical Accounts are always worth a read: http://edina.ac.uk/statacc/ where, going to the Parish list, you will find it under the name Dunbarny (no 'e' this time). If you don't know the Statistical Accounts, go there now! They are a wonderful read for family historians. There is a very fine 128 page book by JW and RE Seath published by Perth and Kinross District Libraries in 1991, which I bought there not long back for a mere £1.95, entitled: 'Dunbarney. A Parish with a Past'. The P&K Library bookshop is bursting with juicy books and pamphlets for anyone interested in Perthshire history: http://www.pkc.gov.uk/library/publications.htm all the best Gavin. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Marshall" <smarshall2071@rogers.com> To: <PERTHSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 2004 2:24 AM Subject: [PERTH] SIMPSON - Kinmonth, Dumbarney Parish, pre 1785 > Looking for information on David SIMPSON, cooper "of Kinmonth in the Parish of Dumbarney" who was alive in 1785 when his daughter, Mary SIMPSON married John TAYLOR in Perth. > > I am unfamiliar with this parish - what sources would be available? Mention of the Dissenters leads me to wonder who they were. Several of my ancestors seem to have been married or baptised in the Dissenting Congregation in Perth. Does anyone have further information on this subject? Sheila in Missouri
Dear Debbie I'd be interested if you come across James Robertson, my great great grandfather. He was a weaver in Perth, worked in Bridgeton Glasgow for a time before returning home with his wife Agnes Stark (from Cadder, LKS), and young children eg. Robert. Someone inTay Valley FHS discovered for me that he died in Tibbermore Poorhouse, but I don't know how long he lived there. Any info on this institution and it's location would be very welcome. Hello list, I'm conducting research into the parish of Tibbermore, and especially the Ruthvenfield/Huntingtower area. As such I will be making frequent use of census/OPR etc info for the area. If anyone has anything they would like me to check for them in the course of this, feel free to get in touch, and I will do my best to help. I have no family links in Tibbermore myself, my interest in based on the fact that I live there.
