In the process of looking for the family of my gg grandfather, Alexander Stewart, who was probably born in Monzie, I found a possible group of siblings in the IGI online. One of them is listed as Angus or Thomas Stewart born Sept. 2 1798. Could someone tell me what the "or" signifies? Is it that the entry was not legible? Thanks. Virginia
Rose, The way I have it figured, Robert Rodger, married Elspeth Marshall in 1706, or then Catherine Ogilvy in 1707, and was the father of Robert Rodger in 1710. When the younger Robert married, his daughter was Isabel. Isabel married James McCainsh in 1772 and had John, Janet, James and William. I don't know who the other two sons would be. A missing link? At age 33, it would seem Isabel wasn't a young girl when she married. All-in-all, as a Monzie girl, Isobel would be family. I just haven't gotten around to plotting that line out on my "battle-board"! I do know that the Rodger and Marshall families must have had a close social bond, if nothing else. It was a Marshall that my great-grandfather worked for in Newfoundland when he left Crieff. I expect I haven't offered anything new with the above, but if I have, please let me know. Lawrence David Rodger, Patriarch, "CRNC, USA" http://members.cox.net/clan_rodger/ "Prayer to an Ancestor" I remember you. You did not live in vain. I love you. You did not die in vain. I've been searching for some verification of what I'd been told over the years... that Patrick Peter SMALL owned a tavern and was an innkeeper. I found internet documentation of such, at least: Inns in the Carse of Gowrie, 1806 Return of Hotels, Inns and Public Houses, &c in the Carse of Gowrie Licencing District on 29th April 1806 http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/PER/inns.html Names of Occupier: Peter Small Where Situate: Longforgan What Parish: Longforgan Inn/Hotel/Public House: Public House No. of Rooms: 10 Can someone lead me to how I can obtain documented material for this? What would I look for? Also, what is the difference between an inn, a hotel and a public house? Thanks in advance, Jim Small http://www.angelfire.com/ia/smallclan

Does anyone know if there are any records on the overseer of roads? I'm looking for information about William Rogie (Rodger, Rodgers) who would have been overseer of that section about 1811.
I'm looking for information on Isabel Rogie (Rodger, Rodgers) who married James McAinsh (McCainsh) 17 May 1772 in Perthshire. The Rogie family was from Crieff; not sure about McAinsh. They may have had 5 sons and 1 daughter. Anyone know this family?

The National Archives online catalogue is at http://195.153.34.3/dservea/ I will be going to New Register House as usual and National Archives main building if requested. This is likely to be my last visit to Edinburgh this year. I am going to London for the week next week. I should be able to access my emails, but I will put up an auto response in case there is a problem. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes Helen Curtis www.genealogicalservices.co.uk PS Please ask if you would like to be removed from this list.
In reading a 1768 Logierait OPR, if I'm interpreting the handwriting correctly: 1) What would the profession/trade be of someone listed as being the "improver to the Earl of Breadalbane at Taymouth"? 2) Where/what would the locale of Killuhangie be? Thank you in advance! Carol

Looking for relatives or any information on the descendants of David McEwen (or McEwan - b.1837 in Dunfermline, Fife) and his wife Ann Edward (b.1837 in Kinneff, Kincardineshire), who married on 21 March 1856 at Montrose. At the time of the 1881 census they were residing at 82 South Street, Perth. Their children at that time were: David McEwen, age 24 Alexander McEwen, age 21 James M. McEwen, age 17 William Edward McEwen, age 14 Ellen McEwen, age 11 Ann McEwen, age 6 Euphemia McEwen, age 4 and George H. McEwen, age 10 months. William Edward McEwan later married Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, and was residing at 18 South Street, Perth, at the time of the Great War. The couple lost at least two sons in the Great War: Fred McEwan, Driver T2/12931, 26th Company, Army Service Corps, who died in Greece on 18th June 1916. Age 18. William McEwan, Sapper 134164, 57th Field Company, Royal Engineers, who died of wounds on the Somme on 3rd July 1916. Age 25. Any information would be greatly received. Ian Edwards Montrose
Hi everyone I have been searching on the National Library of Scotland website lately having a good search of the maps they have online. There is an 1898-1904 - ORDNANCE SURVEY - One-inch 2nd edition map of Scotland, with coloured parishes which may be of interest, but the better maps are the older ones. I have had great fun deciphering where these places actually were and trying to understand the text! I hope its ok to list the URL: http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/index.html Change the Geographic Area to Counties of Scotland and then hit Perthshire Regards Julia Dundee, Scotland >>> "JAMES MACKENZIE" <mackenzie_aldclune@btinternet.com> 08/11/2004 21:40:36 >>> Hi Carol Take care with the Kirkmichaels...there are/were five! In Ross & Cromarty (Dist No. 79), Ayr(600), Banff(160), Dumfries(836) and the one you want in Perth where the District Number is 370.
