I have a Benjamin Perkins who was born about 1801 in Connecticut. He later moved to Orange County NY. He shows up there in the 1830 Census. In the 1840 census, there is another older male residing in the household (his father?). One of Benjamin's sons was William Henry, born 1833 in Orange County NY, was my great grandfather. I thought that my Benjamin was the possible son of Edward Perkins who wound up in Illinois. However, DNA tests indicate that Edward is of a different line. If you have a male relative perkins you can run a DNA test and compare with other Perkins lines in Connecticut (See SCPerkins DNA). If you run across my Benjamin I would appreciate a "heads up".
