Springfield in the 1860s, and his ancestry. I think they must be related to my direct line ancestors beginning with a Chauncy Cummings, who we have never found a parent or birthplace for. His wife DANKS< Prudence lived near the Perkins and named her son Israel Perkins Cummings, so we think this is a clue. Maybe it is a cousin or sister of hers that is married to him, but you know the census has no maiden names for women at that time. It could end in finding a common birthplace for Chauncy Cummings and Israel Perkins, if only I were so lucky.
