    1. PERKINS, Abraham; MA, USA; 1603-
    2. Lee Perkins
    3. Andy Perkins in England: This one's for you. I've gotten information back from my father on Abraham Perkins and his wife, Mary Wise. If there is anything incorrect, let me know. He doesn't cite sources for all his info, but I'm sure he has it, and I can put you in touch with him. I'll post Mary first, since the document is shorter. Mary Wise was born in England, but we don't know where, nor do we have a birth date for her. (Any help from the English branch of the family will be appreciated). She died in 1706 listed as "Very Aged" Her father was Humphrey Wise and her mother was named Susanna. We don't have a last name. She married Abraham Perkins (date unknown) about 1635. (One source said to a Mary Wyeth or Wyat, which turns out to be the same name spelled differently. So Mary Wise and Mary Wyeth are one and the same person). The early records of Hampton, NH speak very well of Abraham and we find him serving as a witness, along with one of his sons, in a witchcraft trial of 1656. The person accused was a Eunice Cole. He also appears as a witness on many probate records there. Mention is made of the fact that he was a good penman (a talent, which I fear has not come down through the generations :-)) which, perhaps, is the reason that he appeared so often on probate records, and as a witness on other civic and civil matters. It should be borne in mind that very few people of this era could read and write. Thus, it seems that Abraham must have had a pretty fair education in England, although I found no evidence of it in my research on this man. He died in 1683, and a copy of his will may be found in the State Papers of New Hampshire, vol. 31, p.263. Anyone wanting to see this and his own (Abraham's) signature in facsimile may do so at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, MA and at other depositories of this information. I think that Mary Wise was the daughter of Humphrey Wise of Ipswich, MA for the following reasons. 1. He and Abraham both lived first in Charlestown and then in Ipswich. Thus, they had known each other as towns in MA in the 1630s were Very small. 2. More significant is the fact that Humphrey Wise of Ipswich, MA Apprenticed one of his sons to Abraham Perkins for a period of Seven years. This item appears in Pope's Pioneers of Massachusetts Page 509. 3. Abraham and Mary named two of their sons Humphrey, which seems to Be conclusive evidence. If Mary Wise was indeed the daughter of Humphrey Wise, this would be a natural thing to do, as in that Era as well as today, names followed along generation after Generation in most families. 4. Humphrey does not appear before this as a first name in the Perkins line. 5. The names Wise and Wyeth are the same, despite the spellings, In the genealogies of Maine and New Hampshire. They list Humphrey Wise with Wyatt as well as Wyeth together as one person in one Family group. Humphrey Wise was of Ipswich and he died soon After 1635 and his widow Susanna married a Samuel Greenfield. 6. The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire states On p. 773, that Humphrey Wyeth's (Wise's) daughter Mary Married Abraham Perkins. I believe that they are all the same people mentioned above.
