I posted to this list long ago, dropped out, and have returned, still on a mission! I am looking for information on James Perkins and his wife Susan Downs, both supposedly of Rochester, NH. They were probably born around 1799-1800. They had a son, Thomas, b. 1834. Family legend has it that Thomas was a full-blooded Indian, which would mean James and Susan were also. The closest evidence I have found is the death certificate of Thomas' son Charles, stating that Thomas was born in Old Town, Maine, which is the home of the Penobscot Indian nation. However, I have 2 other records saying he was born in Rome, Maine and Lebanon, Maine. Checks with all 3 towns have turned up nothing on Thomas or his parents. I recently received an e-mail from a woman in South Dakota, saying there is a James Perkins in her husband's ancestry, born about 1838 somewhere in Maine, also allegedly an Indian. Don't know if there's any connection, but could be. I'm open to any and all suggestions, and WELCOME and information you might have!! Thanks, Lynda
