Regiment-Illinois Mustered into service Feb.27,1865 in Chicago at the age of 18, Mustered out Sept. 21, 1865 in Memphis, Tn. His residence is listed as Winfield, Ill. DuPage Co. at time of enlistment. William was 5'4 brown hair, blue eyes and light complexion. He was also listed as a Brakeman in Rome, N.Y. as a civilian. It was the job of the 153rd to guard the railroad in Tenn.
