    3. You might check my wife's web page on this link: http://home.earthlink.net/~bcamin/betty.htm There are no Martins but maybe there are other names connecting to yours. Her Perkins file is in FTW. Betty is now in a Nursing home with Vascular Dementia and is unable to help. In years past she has spent time in Kingston, NY going thru old records but was unable to find her missing link. She was very upset with their employee's that they allowed us to go thru boxes of records while they went to lunch. Many records were missing and she said that people probably selfishly stole the only existing records. A vendetta she always fought. She believes they should not allow even pocketbooks in archives. She has never found her Perkins connection in the late 1700's. She would have participated in the DNA project but there are no Perkins males left in her chain. 1. Re: [PERKINS] RE: PERKINS-D Digest V05 #50
    2. I agree wholeheartedly with John Thompson; names do repeat themselves often in most lines during a certain time period. Remember, too, please that the census records of long ago were written by people who may have been barely literate and were just spelled as they were heard. Information extracted from original records can be incorrectly spelled as well; case in point: when I was trying to find my grandfather's marriage information, I had to resort to the telephone. I found what I needed by using his spouse's name and the approximate date; the problem was that I was looking for Nolie D. McKeever and the marriage information showed Walie McKeever. ( A wonderful clerk at the court house looked through her records while I was on the phone.) Daunting, to say the least. Get thee to a Mormon Family History Library; the volunteers there will help you in every way they can. What they don't have on computer, they probably have on microfilm to be put on the computer. Some of my best help has come from listers. Subscribe to all the lists that contain any surnames you have in your extended family and the lists for any counties and/or states where they lived. Someone out there will have what you need. Betty in California

    3. John, Thanks for the response. I am quite confused about this family. I am looking for the William Perkins who was father to Adam Perkins, born 1767 in Burke Co., No. Carolina. The William of 1715 married Sarah Lawrence about 1752. (Was he married before?). This William's parents were Richard and Mary Sherwill. So who was William of 1731? In trying to trace the family back to source, I have Thomas Perkins, born 1582 in Hillmorton, Warwickshire, Eng. But I'm not sure this is correct, as all the emigrants from the Hillmorton Perkins seem to have gone to Ipswich in Essex Co., Mass. instead of Baltimore Co., MD. Any light you can throw on this will be much appreciated. I am trying to sort out the Perkins family of the 16th C in Hillmorton, Warwickshire, in particular Thomas & Alice Kebble, son Henry, and the two following Thomasas. The dates given in Ancestry seem to be all over the place. I have Thomas born 1561, 1565, & 1579/80. He would be the father of Thomas born 1594/1600. I don't find much on that Thomas, but presumably he is the one who emigrated to Maryland? If someone is familiar with this line, please fill me in! Virginia

    3. Just a reminder that the Parkins and Perkins Y DNA study exists to help you make these kind of connections. Males with the Perkins surname are welcometo join the study to see if you match any of the people already tested. The more Perkins males tested, the greater is the chance that you may be able to make a connection to an established line. See these web pages: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scperkins/PerkinsDNA.html http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Parkins%2DPerkins/ Regards, Steven C. Perkins

    2. I have Joseph possibly being married twice. The first was Martha Buswell around 1690 and then I have a reference to a possible second wife, with whom he had the children with, as Martha Van Bibbens. You will want to do some research on both last names, sadly I did not list a reference point. Serena
