    2. Dear Paula: This is Jim Perkins from Houston, Texas. It is wonderful to see you on line again. I have wanted to write to you many times but did not want to intrude. How have you been? I have mentioned your book many times to people who still write to me wanting information on the essay I wrote years ago. It is still on the Internet at the Perkins Site run by Sonya Lynch. It is amazing that there is a new resurgence of folks researching the family from so many different locations. Guess the Perkins' weren't so stuffy after all, procreating bunch huh! Best Regards, and write when you have time. I still remember fondly how kind and helpful you were when I was first starting out. Sincerely, Jim Perkins (from the Hillmorton bunch)

    3. Please look at the Parkins and Perkins Y DNA project. The descendants of Edward Perkins DO NOT MATCH those of the Hillmorton Perkins families. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scperkins/PerkinsDNA.html At this time his ancestry is not confirmed, but I lean toward William Perkins, Merchant Tailor of London as his father. I need to test a descendant of Rev Capt William Perkins of Boston and Ipswich, Massachusetts, Edward's proposed half-brother, to see if there is a match. If anyone knows a male Perkins surnamed descendant of Rev William Perkins, please give him my email address. Thanks, Steven C. Hi to all, Perkins in USA here is a list of searchable databases in the UK, I have sent this after having received spam e-mails from organizations that you can search their database for a fee, when you can search the UK Gov sites for free, paying only to download the info. The UK gov site has links to local councils who have the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages where you can apply for Certificates. I hope this will be of use to you all Regards Chris Perkins Devon England http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/ http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/whats-new.asp http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ http://www.direct.gov.uk/Dl1/Directories/AToZOfCentralGovernment/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=10013528&chk=8b2gQw

My son-in-law has several connections to that family through his Lathrop/Lothrop line. They eventually migrated west through both Canada (the loyalists) and through New York. These are not my people so I leave that family to others. To the south we have Richard Perkins (my ancestor) who first appears in Baltimore (now Harford) County, Maryland in the 1680's. He was probably born between 1640 and 1660 in southwestern England. While many postings show that he was born in Baltimore County, I have yet to see any citation of an original document to support this claim. (There is also nothing to connect him to the New England Perkins.) Richard was probably transported sometime after 1685 when a Richard Perkins was convicted along with a hundred or more others: "8 Jul 1685. The following convicted before Chief Justice Jefferies at the Court of Oyer and Terminer for Dorset, Somerset and Devon for waging war against the King and sentenced to be transported to the Americas [sentence enrolled on 4 Feb 1691]: ... Richard Perkins ... " (PRO: C66/3339/1 & SP (Domestic) James II Vol.1 No.159). (Source: Peter Wilson Coldham, Complete Book of Immigrants 1661-1699, Genealogical Publishing Co, 1990, Pg 525.) Richard married a woman named Mary at about this time. There is no known record of her surname. There are again many postings that she was Mary Utie, daughter of George Utie and Susanna Gouldsmith and niece of Nathaniel Utie, the first representative of the crown who was sent to the upper Chesapeake as a warden to control the illegal fur trade. He settled Spesutia Island (now a part of the US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland). This is absolutely incorrect since Mary Utie was married to Anthony Drew from before 1688 until Anthony died in May 1720. They had at least nine children during this period. This is well documented since her family was a significant presence in the area at the time. (One of her descendants did eventually marry a Perkins descendant in, I believe, Tennessee. Richard and Mary had at least three sons Richard, William and Elisha, and probably three daughters Mary, Sarah and Marsha. William (my ancestor) stayed in Baltimore County while Richard and his wife Mary Sherrill, Elisha and his wife Margaret Sherrill, Mary and her companion John Hutchison, and the rest of the Sherrill clan migrated south through Virginia to North Carolina where they settled on the Catawba River. At that time the Catawba was the western boundary of European settlement. Richard and Mary had a son Richard born in North Carolina, who had a son Richard, etc. Another early Perkins was Robert who died in Charles County, Maryland sometime after Aft. 30 Dec 1668. A number of postings claim Robert to be the father of Richard of Baltimore county. Their source citation is Roberts will. I can only say that the will in not proof. I obtained a copy of Roberts will from the Maryland Archives and there is no mention of any Perkins children. Will of Robert Perkins In the name of God amen. 2. Dear Stephen, I looked at the first web you gave and found my John Perkins of Louisa Co. VA (wife Mary Anthony) and do not understand all the numbers. A friend (former Pres. of Nat. Gen. Soc. and good researcher) also descends from John Perkins, swears he is from Nicholas Perkins. I don't think so, but can't find anything on his father. I WOULD LOVE TO CORRESPOND WITH OTHER DESCENDANTS OF JOHN PERKINS OF LOUISA CO. VA. I come from his son, William. My Perkins stopped with my great grandmother and I know no male cousins. I could not open the 2nd. Web you gave. Roberta Padgett, Frankfort, KY. -----Original Message----- From: Steven C. 2. I went through KY Historical Society internet to Heritage Quest and looked on census, 1900, 1910 & 1920 for all combinations of the name, Delmar Earl Duke Perkins and found none. There was an Earl Perkins on 110 in Lawrence Co. whose wife's name was Nettie with 6 children. Sorry. I am four generations removed from a male Perkins so I can't participate in the project, but would sure like to see the results to verify what I have in my database. 1. "Old Jock" Perkins - Richard Perkins connection
    2. With the Perkins North Carolina in being slave holders, has anyone with Old Jock as a ancestor had their DNA compared to Richard Perkins DNA? Any volunteers?

    1. Re: [PERKINS] Re:"Old Jock" Perkins - Physical Characteristics
    2. My understanding is that Old Jock Perkins could be mullato or Melungeon. The only problem with Old Jock being african american on his father's side has been ruled out by DNA. My John Perkins who I have had a hard time tracing was born in PA, his father MD, and his mother PA. The DNA of John and the DNA of a descendant of Old Jock Perkins match. Thus African American would have to be on the mother's side not the father's side. Jackie Perkins-Horton

    3. Thank you for this information. It somewhat helps on asking different questions now to some of my relatives. :) Have a good week. -----Original Message----- From: kygs@aol.com [mailto:kygs@aol.com] Sent: Monday, October 10, 2005 1:54 PM To: PERKINS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PERKINS] Re:"Old Jock" Perkins - Physical Characteristics I went through KY Historical Society internet to Heritage Quest and looked on census, 1900, 1910 & 1920 for all combinations of the name, Delmar Earl Duke Perkins and found none. There was an Earl Perkins on 110 in Lawrence Co. whose wife's name was Nettie with 6 children. Sorry. What city, have no clue. Gfathers name was Delmar Earl "Duke" Perkins. Wife was Ethel Perkins (maiden name unknown). His son, my father was, Ronald Lee Perkins born in 1934. His other children were Betty Louise Perkins, born between 1926-1930,(Died around the age of 19 due to a train colliding with her car in South central LA, CA) and Jack Perkins, born in 1926 (whereabouts unknown) Jack was somewhat very good with interior design and from what I was told when I was young was that her had a Male special friend. They all moved from Kentucky in 1936 to South central LA, CA. that is as far back I know. I can not find anything through this Perkins_List. Anyone have any ideas? To have you say some of the Perkins' were possibly mulatto really struck me. I have a couple of photos of women whom I believe are our Perkins' and I have told many cousins over the last 5 years that it appeared that some of them had lip structure consistent with Negro characteristics. Where are your Perkins' from and where were they settled? I'll share anything I have. Do you have old photos? I have only a couple with the reference.
