Hi Listers, I am seeking any information on Thomas J (probably Jefferson) Perkins...aka "Jeff" Perkins. He was born in 1874 and died 27 MAR 1952 Knifley, Adair County, Kentucky. He was married to Myrtle Thompson (26 NOV 1886 - MAR 1968) also of Knifley, Adair County, Kentucky. According to the 1930 Census, "Jeff" and Myrtle were listed as the parents of Edna M, Nora, Gussie, Lara, Leonard, Oconal, and Ansel. Nora Perkins Gilbert is my grandmother. Any information on this family is appreciated. Thank you. Also, thanks to the person who reminded me (about 2 weeks ago) that many southerners are often called by their middle name. I should have known that. I grew up calling my own sister by hers. Kellie Barnett --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
try this site for an explanation re Old Jock Perkins http://www.murrah.com/gen/perkins.htm Patricia Caviness Perkins
There is a book that says Old Jock Perkins was a son of Esther Perkins a mulatto and the evidence given is that Old Jock was indentured to a man (can't remember his name) and then a few years later in the court records it said a son of Esther's (different from Old Jock) was indentured. Then there was a trial in Kentucky or Tenn saying Old Jock's son was a negro. It has quite a few people who testified in the trail - some said yes but most said he looked more like an Indian. I have heard since then that he could have been a Melungeon. I am not sure if thin lips, high cheek-bones, and a very long face are negro traits. I don't think so. This is what my Dad looked like. I had my cousin do a DNA sample for our Perkins family. I have been brick-walled for many years at John Perkins with a brother William. John was born in PA and William in Wheeling WVA - john 1817; william 1824. They end up in Linn county, Iowa about 1845. John's first son was named Robert A., then James Edward, John, William, Helen daughter, Eliza (daughter) and my direct descendant Francis Oliver. I have been in contact with every one of these families and they all were told they had Indian in them. I do not know which is correct Mullato or Melungeon but in the 1900 census John was born in PA; father MD; mother PA. The point is a Perkins from Old Jock's line also had a DNA sample done and ours match completely not the 12 but the 30+. Somewhere we are related. Jackie Perkins-Horton
Kevin, I am from Franklin John Perkins, Genesee County Michigan born about 1879 and married Lillian Eastwood in Genesee County about 1900. Do you have anything on Franklin Perkins or 'Frank' Perkins from Genesee County? Thanks, Dick Whitaker
I thought Old Jock had more characteristics of the mulongeons (spelling sorry) - thin lips, high cheekbones and long face. Jacks

Hi Steven, The parents of Anna Hutchinson were Edward and Mary Hutchinson. I don't have Mary't maiden name. The children of John and Anna were: Anna, Dr. John, Elizabeth, Mary and William. Since NEHGS came out with newest update on MA Vital Records, I have found J. A. Perkins of Haverhill to have been married twice in two years, (1880. 1881) his birthplace has 3 different towns listed and his father's name no longer Albert but John H. J.A. was a well known architect in Haverhill who may have died about 1940. I have info on his 2nd wife, Elfleda I. Davis of Maine and two of their children, altho one may have been from the first wife. Anyone doing this line who would like to exchange info with me? Or have an obit? I understand there may have been 7 children. TIA Marian --------------------------------- Yahoo! Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. Try it free.
I am looking for a Simion Perkins, b. 1767, d.1848. He had two sons, William and Jeremiah. I believe Jeremiah was born in Connecticut. Anyone have any connections?
My George Perkins apparently came from Greenbrier County, Virginia. I have seen people make reference to Perkins in Greenbrier County, Virginia, but I have seen nothing conclusive of with any documentation regarding the Perkins of Greenbrier County, Virginia. I am particularly interested in the Perkins who were there at about 1750 to 1810. Any information with some degree of documentation or source material would be appreciated. Thanks, Curt Older

Hi Jim, I didn't realize it was you. How neat. When it comes (especially ) to genealogy, you are never intruding. I have been monitoring the newsgroup for awile. I unsubscribed for a time, and then I think I changed carriers. Or something happened. Anyway, I am back on now. Lots of Southern Perkins questions. Can't help with those. I do have a short line to Nicholas I discovered, but I have never seen anything convincing concerning his parentage. Some day. I hope to add some more to my web site concerning the six immigrants in my book, but haven't gotten to it yet. I don't have too many books left, so thought I would at least let people know something about their origin on the web site. And I can always do look ups. I still try to help where I can, especially on the New England lines. Take care, and do stay in touch. I have been reading the different Perkins but so far don't know if I am related to any of them. My line comes from Sumner, Illinois. My great-grandfather, Steven Perkins, was a constable or sheriff and his wife had a boarding house. Her name was Mary Ann Edmondson Perkins. Rose Mary Lankford

My name is Ray Coffman Perkins III, born in Charleston W. V.. My father's family is from Summersville, Nicolas County, W.V..
