Dear Norm, I noted with interest your query about your Person and Caswell County Perkins family and I'm probably simplifying a response to you. That's mostly because I'm quite new at research of the Perkins family. But . . . . . In view of the fact that the name Peter is used in your line and the location of your family is very near Stokes Co NC and Patrick Co VA, I would suggest that you search for your line in Patrick Co. There were three Perkins there around the time of the Revolution: Constant(ine), Nicholas, and Peter. They were descendants of Nicholas Perkins of Henrico Co, the immigrant. Peter Perkins was apparently an outstanding person - after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, he opened his own home and arranged for three other Patrick Co families (including Constant and Nicholas Perkins) to open their homes to receive and nurse the American wounded from the Battle. Peter Perkins was also the owner or the Morotock Furnace beside the Dan River in Danbury, Stokes County NC. The furnace is still standing and is now an historic site in a beautiful setting. Good luck in the search for your families. This is my PERKINS family with which I've been at a dead-end for 2-3 years: Augustus Perkins b:abt 1865, VT raised family in Franklin Springs/Clark Mills area d: early 1900, probably Oneida Co., NY m: 1885 to Hanna/Anna Hoffman of Rome NY (German immigrant) ch.: Mae m. O'Neill, George Augustus m Marie Kunz, Helen m ? (supposedly someone of Italian descent or an immigrant). Surprisingly, I can't find him in the cemeteries of that area; someone checked records in the Rome/Utica Gen. Soc. and found nothing. I can't find him as a child in VT. I haven't written to funeral homes in the area & need to do that. I did make several phone calls to the cemeteries and found nothing. George is my line. He moved his family to Buffalo 1912-1917 to work in the steel mills. My father-in-law is 1 of his 4 children, and I have the info on this line. Thanks. Brenda ------------------------------
I'm looking for this guy (my gggrandfather), so if anyone can help out before I go to NH, I'd appreciate it. Obit. from Rochester, NH newspaper, June 19,1919 Reuel M. PERKINS Reuel M. PERKINS, for many years a resident of this city, died very suddenly at his home in Portland, Me., June 15, aged 71 years. Mr. PERKINS came to Rochester [NH] in 1875, and was in the marble and granite business for many years. He went to Portland about a year and a half ago, to be near his daughter, Mrs. Chase E. CHENEY, whose husband has a fine position in one of the cities leading stores. Mr. PERKINS was a member of the first Methodist church here, and was one of the oldest members of the Motolina Lodge, I.O.O.F., being a past noble grand. He was one of a large family, being the last one to survive. He leaves as relatives only nieces and nephews, and his daughter Stella CHENEY, and granddaughter Doris. He lived only five weeks after the death of his wife, notice of which was published in this paper. The funeral was held Tuesday at 2:30, and burial was at Evergreen cemetery. And his wife: Obit. Rochester newspaper, May 7, 1919 Mrs. R. M. PERKINS. Mrs. Addie M., wife of Reuel M. PERKINS, died at her home in Portland, Me., Tuesday, aged 67 years. She was born in Berwick, Me., but lived in Rochester for over forty years. She attended the M.E. church here and was a member of Naomi Rebekah degree lodge. She has been in poor health for many years but has been a patient sufferer. She had many friends in this city who will miss her. She leaves, besides her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Chase E. CHENEY, a granddaughter, Miss Doris CHENEY, and a brother, John F. TEBBETTS. Funeral services will be held at her home, 593 Forest Ave., Portland, and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. searching for information regarding: William Andrew PERKINS b Feb 9, 1851 IA son of James H. PERKINS & Mary Elizabeth WOODY m Julia CORNAZ (b Apr 24, 1859 Marshalltown, Marsh., IA) d Sept 12, 1907 Yreka, Sisky., CA their son Richard Silas PERKINS b Nov 1887 Chico, CA William was a sea captain, who alledgedly crossed the oceans many times during his career. I am particularly interested in any information concerning his life as a captain, routes, etc. Also, if anyone has any idea how I may obtain information on his voyages I would greatly appreciate it. I am unaware of the resources which may be available, such as manifests and ships logs etc, for the late 1800's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
