On the list KyBios, was this one. Only one mention, but, maybe will help some one. Carla. Matthews Coulston Ramey Burgess Perkins = VA **** History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p 712. [Harrison County] [Rutland Precinct] W. N. MATTHEWS, farmer, P. O. Hinton; was born in Harrison County, June 22, 1837; his grandfather, Richard Matthews, came from Virginia at an early day, and settled in Harrison County, where he engaged in farming; also had copper distillery on his place, in which he worked up the produce of his own and adjoining farms. He died at an advanced age and is buried on the farm now occupied by his grandson. The father of our subject is still living, in the eighty-eighth year of his age, stout and active. W. N. Matthews was raised as a farmer, which occupation he has successfully prosecuted, being the owner of 325 acres of good land lying on the middle fork of Raven Creek. On the 30th of September, 1858, he married Eunice, daughter of Isaac and Eunice (Coulston) Ramey, of Harrison County, by whom he has eight children, four boys and four girls, named respectively: Mary E., Lucy E., Alfred R., Robert B., George C., Eva J., Flora B., and James T. In 1863 he was elected Constable of Rutland Precinct, but resigned in 1864, to enlist in the Federal army; he was elected Captain of Co. I, lst Kentucky State Guards, under Col. E. P. Hawkins, and Lieut. Col. J. J. Craddock; he served till [sic] the close of the war, receiving his discharge in 1865. After the war he was nominated by the Republican party for the office of Magistrate, but was defeated by John Burgess, the Democratic nominee. In 1869 he was elected Magistrate as an Independent candidate, over "A. J. PERKINS", the champion of the Democrat party; was elected to the same office again in 1879, as an Independent candidate, over John Burgess, his first opponent; is a member of Raven Creek (Masonic) Lodge; has filled every office in it, from Tyler to master; is Treasurer at the present time. Till [sic] the outbreak of the war he was a Democrat; his opposition to secession accounts for his present political views.

To: Steve Perkins From: jkimball@star.net Judith Kimball Not much has been done on pre-1634 Kimballs, the Scotts (Richard m. Ursula) always appeared to be more interesting as there was a 'story' that the Scott line went back to Charlemagne. Not so. Richard's family were yeoman farmers, lived in Hitcham, Suffolk, a bit out of the way for a Bedfordshire connection. Richard moved to Rattlesden (next town) after marriage. Don't know about aunts (too early to be a sister). 4 gens. behind Richard are all Henry. Earliest is a Thomas (w. d. 5 Nov 1453). The name was not spelled Kimball in England, it is, rather, either Kemball or in older records, Kembold(e). Richard b. c1592, arrived Boston 1634. Don't know much about Perkins, unless of course one happened to marry a Kimball. Ipswich was full of them, but don't know where in England they came from. Suppose I could look that up? Judith

Here are all my Perkins in case you are connected with us. I would appreciate any other info anyone has. My earliest Perkins were from Hillmorton, England with the first immigrant ancestors, John and Judith Gater Perkins who arrived on the Lion (Lyon) in 1631and lived in Ipswich, MA. Then we have their son Jacob and Elizabeth Whipple (not Lovell) Perkins, and their son Jacob and Elizabeth Sparks Perkins; The all lived in Ipswich until son Jacob and who married Anna Littlefield in 1717 in New Hampshire and moved to Wells, Maine. This Jacob and Anna Perkins had some ten children - Lydia, Sparks, Sarah, Elisha, Josiah, Newman, Stephen, David, Jacob and my ancestor, Anna Perkins, baptised in Wells, Maine in 1741. Anna had a son, Jesse Perkins, born abt 1741 and his father is always referred to as "-- Perkins." Did Anna have Jesse out of wedlock and give him her maiden name? Did she marry a Perkins cousin? I have not been able to find this out. Any help anybody? Then it gets a little complicated. When Anna's son Jesse was nine years old, Anna married Nathaniel Taylor, a Deacon, in Wells, Maine. Nathaniel had a daughter, Eunice, by his previous marriage to Jerusha Goodwin. When Eunice and Jesse grew up, they married, intention recorded in 1793 at Wells, Maine, and they had my 3rd great grandfather, George Kames Perkins, who was born in 1808 in Wells, Maine. George Kames Perkins attended Amherst College. According to the Amherst biography, he taught in Penn. and Kentucky and studied law in KY. He also married Elizabeth Ophelia Catherine Gray in 1839 in Greensburg, KY and was admitted to the bar there. He also became a Presbyterian minister and travelled to Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky to set up churches., and he and Elizabeth began a family. My great grandfather Leonidas Cam(Campbell or Camuel) Perkins was probably born in Alabama or Tennessee , and later travelled to Illinois where he married Eliza Jane "Jennie" Upton in 1870 in White County, IL. The other children of Rev. George and Elizabeth O. Perkins are Havana E. who married David Woods in Decatur, Alabama; H. John who married Mollie; Bertha Perkins married R.S. Nunn; Mollie Perkins m. --Carver; and Fanny Perkins m S. O. Nunn. My great grandfather, Leonidas Cam Perkins and Jennie Upton had ten children, including my grandmother Gail Perkins, all born in McLeansboro, White County, Illinois. I would be interested in any information on the Hillmorton, England Perkins as well as discovering the real story about Jesse Perkins paternity. And I would be happy to hear from anyone who is related to any of these lines and will share whatever information I have. Glo Gates

Morning all! Or is that afternoon? Ah well......just thought I would get this posted-- Just found out that my DAVID PERKINS was not born in Connecticut like I thought but was born in NEW HAMPSHIRE!! He was born in 1774 somewhere in New Hampshire. He was married to Eunice Rogers (born 1776 in CT.) probably in CT. I have one marriage date of 1797 in Lyme, CT. but since I just found out about David's birthplace I am not sure this is the right couple anymore. He died in Smithville, Chenango County, New York on June 6, 1850. He died by lightening! Also would like to ask how I would go about finding a deed. On March 10, 1776, land was deeded to a David Perkins by Jonathan Perkins. I would like to find this deed to clear up who this David Perkins was. Any help? Thanks all!! Hi, here's my Perkins, and a suggestion, since a lot of lists are doing Roll Calls now, put Perkins in the subject so we all know which roll call it's about for those of us on different surname lists. I'm looking for William Perkins m. Lucretia Kimball 22 Oct 1836 in Ipswich, Mass. Lucretia was born 1 Oct. 1816 in Ipswich, so the William I am looking for was probably born about then as well. If anyone has access to "The Family of John Perkins of Ipswich, Mass." by Geo. A. Perkins and could do a lookup, I would be ever so grateful. The original volume and the three volume set which updated his first volume have all been stolen from the Minnesota Historical Society, and I'm having trouble getting it through interlibrary loan. Hello Everyone, The list is still growing. We are now at 250 members, which means there are lots of new people on the list. Why don't we all post something about who we are searching for, etc., and get some activity going on the list. Just because we post once, and nobody responds doesn't mean that nobody on the list connects to you or has no information for you. New people are joining...sometimes we overlook something in a message, or are gone for a few days, and miss messages, etc. Also, we might think about some kind of special activities we could do on a monthly basis to generate activity on the list. We need to be posting messages and sharing information for the list to work. For example; Have any of you found an ancestor by accident from simply following a hunch? Many thanks to all of you who have posted in the past, and to all of you who have shared so much data with us. Sandy Myers List Owner smyers@getonthe.net
