    3. I have a David Perkins, Jr. of Bridgewater, MA who married Martha Howard, dau. of John Howard and Sarah Latham. It is likely that your Latham Perkins is one of his descendants. My line goes through his daughter Martha b. 1704 who married Joseph Byram. His other children according to the NEHGR v.50 p.35 are John Perkins b. 1700 Mary Perkins b. 1702 Elizabeth Perkins b. 1707 susannah Perkins b. 1708/09 David Perkins b. 1711 Jonathan Perkins b. 1713/14 Abraham Perkins b. 1716 and possibly a Sarah Perkins I know this isn't much but perhaps it will help. 3. I have a correction to this post. I show that Robert B. Perkins born in 1765 married Sarah Morris. That is evidently wrong. I think his wife's first name was Elizabeth, but I am not sure about that. There was a Robert B. Perkins b 1789/1790, son of Ute Perkins and Sarah Gant, who married Sarah Norris. I hope some of you have the name of who Robert B. Perkins b 1765, son of Robert Biggin Perkins and Elizabeth Lollar, married. 3. Sandy, I would love nothing more than to lay claim to your long line of Perkins unfortunately I only have one verry little lost Perkins boy (James Monroe Perkins) that is six years old in my gggrandfather's house in the 1870 East Baton Rouge, Louisiana census. I sent out a query when I first signed to this list, no one claimed him. I sent out a query last month on the speculated information on his father (James A. Perkins) and uncles (Wiley Perkins, John Perkins, and Matthew Perkins) but no one claimed them either. So I guess you can count us out of your 1600's Richard Perkins I . Maybe someday someone will want him. Happy Holidays Estelle

    1. The meaning of the "PERKINS" surname...
    2. MRS DENISE E READY
    3. The English surname PERKINS is patronymic in origin, being one of those names derived from the first name of a father. In this case, the surname is composed of two elements: "Per", which is a contracted form of PETER and the diminutive suffix "-Kin". Hence, the literal meaning of this surname is "LITTLE PETER". The "-s" ending usually denotes "son of", thus PERKINS would originally have identified the bearer as a "son of Peter". Parkin and Perkinson are other variants of the name. This custom of naming appears to have commenced in the Middle Ages, when it was the practice for sons to take their surnames from the Christian name of their fathers. Early instances of the surname include one Edmund Perkyn, whose name was recorded in the Subsidy Rolls for Suffolk in 1327, and a Walter Perkyns, who lived in Worrestershire in 1327 (Subsidy Rolls). More recent records reveal that this is the surname of some notable English families (Kelly's Handbook to the Titled,Landed and Official Classes) . The name is most numerous in the south of England, the south Midlands and South Wales. Notable bearers of the surname include the English theologian William Perkins (1558-1602) and, more recently, the American editor Maxwell Evarts Perkins (1884-1947).

    3. To all of you Robert Biggin Perkins descendants. I have come across several gedcoms on the web lately...some from GenServ and some from Kindred Konnections that have a completely wrong date and place of death for Robert Biggin Perkins, Sr. These indicate a date about 30 years before he died, and say he died in VA. I believe this information originally came from a paid researcher who found a will in VA from another Robert Perkins. It truly disturbs me to see this kind of wrong information perpetuated over and over. With the advent of the internet, and the ease of access to information, things like this can multiply in a hurry. I can understand why that someone would accept information from a professional research company, but we all need to be aware that they make mistakes also. Robert Biggin Perkins, husband of Elizabeth Lollar, and son of Richard Perkins and Elizabeth McCutcheon (Cutcheon) died in April,1823 in Lincoln County North Carolina, and I have a copy of his will. I have sent several of you copies of this also. Now I will get off my soapbox..(smile) Have a good day all. Sandy Myers List Owner Perkins List

    1. Famous HUSSEY and PERKINS descendants
    2. Paul Redden
    3. I just received a letter from Gary Boyd Roberts citing a 1994 correction (NEXUS v. 11, p.96) to his 1993 NEXUS article on the Ancestors of Actor James Dean. In it gives evidence that the Christopher Hussey who married Ann Garrettson was indeed the daughter of John Hussey II and not his cousin Batchelor Hussey. This means that James Dean is in fact a Perkins descendant. In the article he states that the line to John Hussey and Rebecca Perkins also ties him to Perkins' descendants actors Humphry Bogart, Anthony Perkins and Montgomery Clift (NEXUS 3[1986]:178-80,8[1991]:69;10[1993]:111-12,114, philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson (6[1989]:109-11), and genealogist Walter Goodwin Davis. He also states that various other Perkins descendants are treated in his "American Ancestors and Cousins of The Princes of Wales. In his 1996 edition of his "Ancestors of American Presidents he charts the descent of Presidents Fillmore, Coolidge, F.D. Roosevelt and Nixon from the same Perkins family of Hillmorton, Warwickshire.
