PERKINS emigrants from UK + Ireland I am maintaining a WWWeb page dedicated to emigrants from the UK or Ireland with the surname PERKINS. The URL is; http://www.uea.ac.uk/~e850/perkins/genealgy/emgrate/em_perk.htm The purpose of this page is to hopefully re-unite branches of PERKINS families. Dead-ends on family trees may be the result of emigration. For those of us whose ancestors remained in the UK, researching these dead-ends presents us with no option but impossibly long searches through usually un-indexed sources. For descendents of UK emigrants, the precise place of origin is often not known (particularly for pre-1837 emmgrants when there was no civil registration of births in the UK). And for all of us is a lack of a central list of known emigrants. Hence this web page. It is intended to list only actual emigrants, not their ancestors or descendants. In the case of a family emigrating, each person can be listed. This page is to be restricted to PERKINS emigrants proven to have been BORN in the UK or Ireland. This site is not for strays within UK + Ireland (although eventually I may expand it in that way), nor for posting queries on UK/Ireland lines that come to apparent dead-ends. No surname variants (e.g. Perkings or Perkin) have been included. Formats for submitting information on known PERKINS emigrants can be found on the web page. Andy Perkins a.perkins@uea.ac.uk
General Register Office (England and Wales) - PERKINS extracts Very slowly I am extracting entries of the surname PERKINS from these indexes from their published quarterly format (Jan to Mar, Apr to Jun, Jul to Sep, Oct to Dec) into a yearly format sorted by forename. The indexes start in the 3rd quarter (July onwards) in 1837. I am extracting only the surname PERKINS. No variants (e.g. Perkings or Perkin) will be been extracted. Extracts are available as comma-delimited ASCII text files from; http://www.uea.ac.uk/~e850/perkins/genealgy/gro/gro_perk.htm Currently I have extracted; Births: 1837 (3rd and 4th Quarter only); 1838 (1st Quarter only) Marriages: 1837 (3rd and 4th Quarter only); 1892 (1st Quarter only) Deaths: 1837 (3rd and 4th Quarter only) Andy Perkins a.perkins@uea.ac.uk

I have more than one Perkins line and I'm not sure if they're related or not. The first, most closely related and most complete line is as follows: Daniel Sharpe PERKINS (b. about 1812, VT, died 1878 prob. KS) m. Lydia Samantha CHAMBERLAIN (b. abt. 1820 Windsor Co. VT) on 4 Mar 1836 in Bernard, Windsor Co. VT. Their Children: Lucretia PERKINS (b. 20 May 1841 Bernard, Windsor Co. VT) Clara Agnes PERKINS (b. 23 Aug 1840 VT, d. Logan Co. OK) [my gg-grandmother] m. Merry Christmas: Several people on this list have expressed an interest in one PERKINS in particular. The details are remarkably similar; his given name is unknown, his origin is completely obscure, and his place of birth is only guessed at. Nobody has any information on the time or place of his death. This person appears over a very wide area, and events involving him are documented for an extraordinarily wide range of time. Yet, he seems to have the ability to be in two places, if not simultaneously, then very nearly so. I have been looking for this person for many years myself. I think I've found him. There *is* a person whose parentage matches his exactly; who is well known to travel at seemingly impossible speeds, yet spend time lovingly attending to children's needs; whose activities are documented for centuries, at least. Santa Claus. Yes indeed, he fits all Help! Ouch! Stop that!! Hey, vegetables are one thing--what are you doing with that FRYING PAN???? Yikes . . . .
Al Bradbury, cousins, miscellaneous non-relatives, and other lurkin' Perkinses: Like my Christmas shopping, my wish list is *way* late! My wish involves Russell PERKINS (1760-1813) and his wife Sarah ??? (1749-1842). I would love to be able to "fill in the blanks" on this family. This message is going to the list and to Al Bradbury, who inquired about these folks specifically. (If you get a duplicate, Al, I apologize). Also, this information may be of some interest to Mrs. J. Miller, whose query was passed on to the list by Denise; her "Ruth K. PERKINS b. ca. 1810 VT m. 1846 . . . Timothy WEST" looks tantalizingly similar to my Ruth K. PERKINS b. 30 Mar 1811 Weathersfield VT. **However** my Ruth's marriage to Nathaniel DARTT in 1835 is fairly well documented; her gravestone calls her Nathaniel DARTT's wife; and she is buried in Weathersfield, next to their adult child Emily. My Ruth d. 1856 aged 44. Notes: "Enfield" is the town that was Massachusetts until the mid-1750's, Connecticut thereafter; "Weathersfield" is Vermont (not Wethersfield, CT). Also, my program and work habits require dates; "ca" probably has some basis in fact, while "est" can sometimes be nothing more than a wild-eyed guess while slaving over the keyboard in the wee hours. ---------- Israel PERKINS, b. 16 Oct 1727 Enfield, d. ca 1793 Enfield?
