Hello, all. Forwarding this msg because the map referred to has quite a few Perkins' listed on it. Good luck. Paul of San Diego
Hi everyone. Here is some of the latest information I have for my gggrandfather, Thomas J Perkins, b 1832 in Illinois. His father came from Kentucky. 1832- Born in Illinois 1852- From Lawrence Co., Illinois to WA Territory. (via Oregon Trail?) 1855- Volunteered for Indian Wars service with Regiment of Washington Territory Volunteers, US Army, as a mounted private. 1856- Married to Esther Bryan (my gggrandmother) at John Laws' residence in Mima Prairie, Thurston Co., WA Territory. 1857- Thomas Perkins was the defendant in a criminal case with the United States Court in Thurston County, W.T. for selling liquor to Indians. No outcome has been determined at this time. 1860- Census in Thurston Co., W.T. At this time (17 June) Thomas was 28 years old and was a farmer. He and Esther had no children, however, Esther's brother Preston Bryon, 14, was living with them. 1870- Census in French Town, Walla Walla Co., W.T. At this time, (4 June) Thomas was 38 years old and still classified as a farmer. At this time, he and Esther had four daughters ranging in age from the oldest Lucy (California Louise, my ggrandmother) at age 9 to the youngest at age 10 months. 1880- Census in Wallula, Walla Walla County, WA. At this time (9 June) Thomas was 48 years old and now classified as a "stockraiser". It also notes that his father was born in Kentucky, but his mother's birthplace was unknown. If this rings a bell with anyone, I would sure like to hear from you. Best regards, Peter Grauer up in Kamloops, BC, Canada
This is a copy of the page describing the photo archive referred to in my earlier e-mails. The address of this page is: http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html Also, the main page for The US Army Military History Institute is at: http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/ I am Sorry I forgot to include this info in my earlier posts. Karen Beidelman ####################################################### MHI Photograph Database This database is a catalog of American Civil War (ACW) photographs from the Special Collections Branch of MHI. Usually, patrons are searching for ancestors, researching particular ACW regiments, or looking for examples of items worn or used by soldiers of the period. Ultimately, this database will reflect the full range of MHI's photograph collection, ranging from the periods of the Mexican War in the 1840s to recent operations such as those in Somalia and Bosnia. Also, as they are scanned, actual images will be made available through the database. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: There are well over 27,000 image descriptions in this catalog and our gateway is not the most efficient in searching those descriptions. Please keep your queries short and to the point. Since every description has "Civil War" attached as a keyword, searching on "Civil War" will attempt to retrieve every record. Please be patient in your searching. If your search takes a very long time, you probably have entered search terms that are too broad and that match a large number of records. All the search terms are implicitly ORed together. This means that any record that contains any of the words in your query will be marked as a potential match for your query. Barring unique last names, it is probably best to start by just entering the ordinal number of the unit being sought. So, rather than enter "27th Michigan Volunteer Infantry" and wait for 5-10 minutes, only to get an error, it might be better to enter "27th" and then get 165 (as of 3 July 1997) records to browse. If you have technical difficulties with this database, please send your questions and/or comments to steinkel@carlisle-emh2.army.mil. Please do not send technical questions to Special Collections; they are not equipped to respond to such queries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note also that this is only a catalog. We do not have photographs linked to the catalog entries. Duplicates of photos may be obtained by following these directions. Send a message to the MHI Special Collections Branch. This may be accomplished in several ways: e-mail to MHI-SC@CARLISLE-EMH2.ARMY.MIL postal mail to U.S. Army Military History Institute ATTN: Special Collections 22 Ashburn Drive Carlisle, PA 17013-5008 or call them directly at +1-717-245-3434 In the message, provide your postal address and the catalog number of the photograph you desire (the "RG" number). They will mail a photocopy of the photograph to you for your examination and approval, along with much more detailed instructions, which will include charges for the duplication of photos. Assuming that you want a copy of the photograph(s), you will then mail a check for the appropriate amount payable to "MHI Fund" and the copy will be furnished after a suitable number of weeks for processing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enter terms to find: Maximum number of records to retrieve at one time: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ USAMHI Special Collections Branch / MHI-SC@carlisle-emh2.army.mil / 6 September 1997 #######################################################

I asked my cousin of CHRAA (Christian History Research And Archives) if he had anything on Perkins, particularly in Kentucky, and this was his response: Re Perkins L. Perkins: messenger from Little Barren No. 3, Metcalfe Co to Original Barren River Baptist Assoc in yrs of 1871, 1889, & 1894. Louis Perkins listed as messenger in 1879 & as church clerk in 1889. J.R. Perkins: messenger from Boiling Springs, Hart Co to Lynn Baptist Assoc in yr of 1883. J.M.Perkins: messenger from Lonoke Baptist Church (changed in 1877 - prior called Pleasant Hill) - (changed in 1856 - prior called Green River Baptist Church when organized in 1803 Hart Co,KY) to Liberty Baptist Association in yr of 1888. Elam Perkins: joined Brush Creek Baptist Church Green Co, KY by letter in 1859, & is noted that since then [to when?] that 9 members of his family have been baptized into church. He must have been well thought of as it states church was in gloom due to his recent decease. In Feb 1876, he was appointed w/2 others to "prepare & report a draft of the house" (planning to build new church building) As messenger to Green River Baptist Assoc from Brush Creek Baptist Church in 1871 as "E. Perkins" F. Perkins: 1859 messenger from same to same. JJ Perkins: 1871 messenger from same to same. JP Perkins: a clerk of same church sometime after 1855 & a deacon sometime after 1846. To all of those who I have helped or promised to help or could not help... I am just making sure that I am still hooked up to the Perkins List. I just upgraded my computer and my prodigy program, so if anyone has written to me personally with in the last week or so, please write me back because I did not receive it. Ah yes, the people in Bath , OH. The Post Office warns and warns them, but they keep on going. I guess as long as the unsuspecting keep buying, they will keep selling. Re: your Perkins problem. Have you checked census records? You should find your grandfather in the 1860 census with his parents. Paula
just a note to everyone to be aware of a book now being sold through the mail called The Family Perkins History offered by Heirloom Book out of Bath Ohio. My aunt received an offer for one-$40 for nothing but names and addresses. We do a better job on our list than that. BTW I told her not to waste her money on this book... My Perkins are still out there somewhere: John Perkins married unknown son: Willis Alexander born MS in 1862-63 (my grandfather) married Nancy Azora Wright TX in 1888. died August 1934 in Clay Co TX. Any info on Willis's parents would help. Bage
Dear Perkins researchers, I want to piggy back on Bage's post. These so called family books fro Bath Ohio are a hoax. They contain nothing more than a current telephone lists of your surname and amybe some general ideas on genealogy. I haven't seen this warning here before, but have have seen it many other places. I am seeking information on John S. Perkins (born 1801) and Devinia Maund (born 25 Jan 1810). The resided in Mitchell County, Georgia. They had a son William Brinson Perkins (4 Sept 1830) and a daughter, Elizabeth Perkins (1834). Thanks for your help. Debra
My gg-father is Meredith Perkins born August 1854 in Eastern Kentucky, died Oct.23, 1922 his death certificate does not list a father, I have been told that there is no way of finding out who his father is, is this true? Wife was Matilda Cotten.
Does anyone have any information on a branch of the Perkin family from Braintree, Essex, England. My father was born there in about 1910. He had three brothers, Will, Charles, Jack and two sisters Rose and Jess. Any information would be most appreciated. Peter Perkin Vancouver,Canada.
I wonder if any one can help me get my family back to England ? Do you know any of Mary's brother's or sisters or parents? I am aware of only two; Elizabeth Perkins who married John Williams and lived in Greenbrier and James Perkins who married Elizabeth________ . Both Elizabeth and James Perkins died in 1825.
