    3. Hi everyone, I've run up against a real brick wall. Anyone who would have any suggestions or could do a lookup in the Perkins genealogy by Geo. A. Perkins would be much appreciated. I'm looking for the parents of Joseph Perkins who married Eunice Noyes in 1804 in Newbury. Accorinding to the town registrar Joseph Perknins was not born in Newbury, and I cannot find a Joseph Perkins in the Newbury or Ipswich VRs born at the correct time. I did find a Joseph Perkins born to Benjamin and Elizabeth Perkins in Newburyport, 4 March 1781. Does anyone have any info on this Joseph Perkins? Does anyone have the Perkins genealogy by George A. Perkins, who would be willing to do a lookup? I can't get it through interlibrary loan, and both the one volume and the second three volume set were stolen from the Historical library here. I'm also having the same problem with Eunice Noyes. The "Genealogical Record of some of the Noyes descendants..." by Henry Erastus Noyes has, in vol. 2 in the index of marriages Joseph Perkins m. Eunice Noyes, but nothing was known about the parentage of either, so that's all the information that was given. The only Eunice Noyes I could find of the right age was Eunice Noyes, b. 31 Aug 1785 to Joseph Noyes and Anne Stanwood in Newburyport in the VR. Just below this it lists her again, with a birth year of 1787 and says "(recorded above)" after the date. The Noyes genealogy has this Eunice, and gives her a birth date of 31 March 1787 in Newburyport. The ancestry is : 1. Eunice Noyes 2. Joseph Noyes b.22.5.1755 Nbpt + Anne Stanwood m. 1778 3. Jonathon Noyes b. 1728 + Mary Willett m. 1749 Newbury 4. Cutting Noyes b. 1703 + Mary Woodman m. 1724 5. Cutting Noyes b. 28.1.1676 + Elizabeth Toppan m. 1702 6. Cutting Noyes + Elizabeth Knight 7. 3. Thanks to everyone who took the time to look for Prudence Perkins. My father finally found out who she was through other means. I thought I'd share part of his letter with you. " ... The Prudence Perkins I seek information on was the wife of the *father* of William Brewster, the Pilgrims minister. [The father] was also named William Brewster as was his father and son. He was born in 1535 and died in 1590. He had two wives. One was Prudence Perkins and the other was Mary (last name unknown). These Brewsters lived in Nottinghamshire and later in Scrooby in Old England, at which place this William Brewster was a locally important figure (Bailiff etc) on which I have found details. 2. The reference to Scrooby is of interest. I have a John DUNHAM born in Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, England 1588-1589. He married Abigail BARLOW October 22, 1622 in Leyden in the Netherlands. He died March 02, 1668/69 in Plymouth Mass. My mother was a PERKINS and so far I have her line back to Samuel PERKINS porbably of Bridgewater Mass who fought in Rev War and married Merhetible SHURTLEFF in Maine after the war. Sounds like there was a sizable group of people from Scrooby who were Puritans. Do you (or anyone else out there) have any historical info on the town? Would like to get my PERKINS back to the same area as the DUNHAMs. My fathers mother was a DUNHAM.

    2. While this message is for Kay Haden, I thought it might help others. Kay, according to Wm Hall, who published "Descendents of NicholasPerkins of Virginia" in the 1950s, you and I are cousins with Nicolas as a common ancestor. He lists one of Nicolas' descendents as Grief PERKINS (1772-1831) who was the son of John Perkins (b 3 Apr 1738 in New Kent, VA, d 1805 in Goochland Co., VA and Lucy Mitchell. He also gives her parents. Grief m (1) Mary MITCHELL in 1795 and (2) Sarah MITCHELL in 1819, both in Goochland Co., VA. He died in 1831 in Logan Co., KY Hall also says a William Grief PERKINS, b ca 1821 in Logan, KY - d in 1908 in Greene Co., MO was either the son of the Grief above or Grief's brother John. I think we are definitely talking about the same person. Hall's work will let you take this family back to Nicholas in VA by 1640. If you have access to a local Mormon Library, you can order a microfiche copy of Hall's book and keep it there permanently. It it listed as fiche #6101214 and will cost about $1.00. My connection with this family is through my former wife, Mildred PERKINS (1918-1957) of Chester, SC. We trace back through a branch that was in Caswell Co., NC. Let me know if you have any questions. I have found Hall's work well documented, particularily for the earlier generations. I know others on the Perkins list have used this work and, perhaps they may have comments. Happy Hunting! 1. Grief PERKINS of Logan County KY
    2. Kay Haden
    3. Hello, Recently subscribed to the Perkins Mailing List. I am attempting to tie together some Perkins folks. My husband's gg grandmother was a Perkins - Mary Jane PERKINS born 1826 in Logan County, KY; married to William Franklin HADEN in 1843 Greene County, MO; died 1918 in Ladonia, TX Her father's name believed to be John PERKINS from Virginia and she had a brother, William G. "Grief" PERKINS older than she. Do not know name of her mother. Other possible siblings were John, Frank, Benjamin, Judy. In researching microfilmed Court Orders of Logan County KY, I have found a Grief PERKINS who died in Logan County, KY about 1831 - his administrator was James PERKINS; no heirs named. In 1827, James PERKINS was executor for his father, William PERKINS - William PERKINS had no son named John in his will, although there are several children. No widows or dower were mentioned so the wives of both these gentlemen were probably already deceased. The 1830 census in Logan County lists Grief PERKINS (age 50-60), James PERKINS (age 20-30), which is consistent with the ages of Grief and James as above. There is also a John PERKINS with several children and perhaps an older couple living with him, who is likely the father of my Mary Jane, but I cannot place him as a son of either Grief or the deceased (by 1830) William. Can't believe that the name "Grief" is a very common given name! I would question whether John PERKINS was necessarily related to the others except that he named a son William Grief. Are there any Perkins researchers that have evidence of the use of this name? Any other clues/suggestions? Thanks, - Kay Haden khaden@mindspring.com
