Does anyone out there have connections with any Perkins thought to be Native American? My husband has such a Perkins family in his ancestry, and as you might imagine, I am having a lot of trouble tracing them. I am currently seeking information on James Perkins and his wife Susan Downs, both probably born around 1800, allegedly in Rochester, NH. Their son Thomas, born 1834, is my husband's 2Xgreat grandfather. Since I have records citing 3 different birth locations for Thomas, I am not confident that Rochester is actually the birthplace of his parents. Records I have on Thomas say he was born in Rome, ME., Lebanon, ME., Old Town, ME. Town clerks in those towns have no information on him, nor does the Penobscot Nation, located in Old Town. I am currently pursuing a remote lead of a connection with this family in Kansas, possible a brother of Thomas. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Lynda

Frank "Cy" Perkins, 85 of Zephyrhills, FL, USA, died on Sunday, August 13, 2000. He was born in Vernon, CT, USA, on November 21, 1914 and resided in Manchester, CT, USA until 1988 when he moves to Florida. He was the son of the late Fred and Etta Perkins. Frank worked for Colt Firearms in Hartford during World War II, ans the later for Spencer Turbine Co, of West Hartford as a machinist for 36 years. He is best remembered for his role as a pioneer of tenpin bowling in Machester area. He was a founder of the Inter-Church League, one of the original leagues formed at Parkade Lanes. Over the courrse of the league's 20 years, he served as a secretary-treasurer. Frank was an avid fisherman and spent many weekends heading to New Hampshire, (USA), in pursuit of trout. He is survived by his second wife, Margaret Perkins of Quincy, MA, USA; his sons Charles Perkins Sr. of Wilmington, NC, [USA], and William Perkins of of Warwick, RI , [USA]; his daughter, Jane Hedlund of Meriden, CT; five (5) grandchildren; and two (2) great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine Cordner Perkins of Manchester; two (2) brothers, Russell and Edward Perkins; and a sister, Mercyll Fairclough. It may not be the same Ephraim, however if it's the Ephraim that is the son of Ute & Sarah Gant Perkins....he would have served with the TN Militia...didn't move to IL until about 1826. This is all I have on him.... "There are conflicting birth dates for Ephraim. Arthur Perkins and Mel Wakefield both have it as February 25, 1791. Anna Weir Colclasure, his great granddaughter has it as May 19, 1792. Census records show him to be 58 years old in 1850, so we know he was born in 1791/1792. Ephraim is believed to have married Eda Job and is shown in the 1850 census for Hancock County, Illinois. He died March 23, 1856 in Pilot Grove Township, Illinois. (Perkins Posterity, Vol. XIV, No. 2, 2000) Ephraim was the first Perkins to locate in Hancock County, Illinois. He then brought his father and mother to what later became Fountain Green Township.
