Posted on another list from: The Puritan Recorder, Boston, Thursday, June 1, 1854 On Thursday, the 25th ult., Mr. George Augustus Perkins, an accepted Missionary of the A. B. C. F. M., and destined to the Armenians in Western Asia, was solemnly ordained and set apart to this important work in this place.
The Puritan Recorder, Boston, Thursday, Aug. 4, 1853 had this annoouncement: In Braintree, 28th ult., by Rev. J. PERKINS, Mr. Loring W. DERBY to Miss Sarah M. HOLBROOK, both of Weymouth.
Snagged these obits from another list: The Puritan Recorder, Boston, Thursday, Mar. 4, 1852 Obituaries Mrs. Martha S. Perkins Died in Littleton, MA., Jan. 28th, Mrs. Martha S., wife of Capt. Plaisted H. Perkins, of Kennebunkport, ME, and daughter of Dea. James Kimball, of L., aged 26. As she was one of those who stay up the hands of ministers and missionaries, her name will justly be held in grateful remembrance. At the age of fifteen she united with her parents and others in the organization of the Orthodox Church in L., and highly adorned that profession till she died. At the Female Academy, Andover--as a Sabbath School scholar, of I. S. Everett--Missionary to the Armenians--and while attending school at Charlestown, she enjoyed precious privileges, and endeared herself to friends who now deeply mourn her. She was counted among the most faithful friends of the lamented Bryant, and her letters greatly cheered him and his companion while he was fading out--dying amid the darkness of Africa. She was married last spring, sailed with her husband to Mobile, (where many who mourn her death reside)--to Sweden and to England, where she visited the Crystal Palace and other objects of interest. Her trust in God and hope in Christ were beautifully illustrated by her composure during a storm at sea, which threatened to founder their bark and wrap them in a winding-sheet of waters. She arrived safe at Littleton, spoke with interest for a few days of the old world, for a few fleeting hours gazed on the babe which God gave her, then passed away, as we trust, to the heavens. The visions of earthly magnificence had scarcely become effaced from the mind, ere she opened her eyes on wonders more vast and scenes more congenial. Her flight was rapid, from the metropolis of the world to the capitol of the universe, from the Crystal Palace to the palace of the Eternal. Though we mourn her loss, we trust it was gain to her to die. With a cultivated mind and heart, pleasing manners, an even disposition, a taste for sacred music, affections which endeared her to all her friends, especially to her husband, of whom she ever spoke in the language of a grateful and loving heart, she might have been highly useful had she lived; but we would submissively bow to the divine decree, and say, "Thy will be done." The bereaved husband returned a few days since, from St. Thomas, where he stopped to repair his bark, and found that his wife and child lay together in the tomb. Died in Littleton, 7th Feb., Elizabeth Hill Perkins, infant child of the above, aged 16 days. Died in Littleton, Feb. 9th, Mr. John H., son of Dea. James Kimball, and brother to Mrs. Perkins, aged 38. All these died in one house in less than two weeks.

Hi all - I am on the Belmont Co list for non-Perkins reasons, but I noticed this mention of Elijah, who lived to be (at least) 103. If any of his descendants are on here and want more info, contact [email protected] who sent it to the Belmont list. These are not my Perkins and I know nothing more than what is here. Since the list is kinda quiet I thought I'd offer an update on the activities of Hunter, Ohio on October 5, 1894. This article was found in the "Republican" newspaper of Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio dated October 5, 1894. If anyone wants an email copy let me know. HUNTER Mr. J. H. Philips, a practical teacher of Oskaloosa, Iowa, returned home this week from (sic) a visit to his old stamping (sic) ground. He likes his new home so well that we presume an appointment even by Grover would not cause him to leave it.........Mr. Johnson and family, of Somerton, now occupy part of the Brown property.....Geo Lambert has secured a set of smithing tools and will start in business at Lampsville......Plenty of our citizens as well as soldiers took in the Encampment at Pittsburg, and spoke of having a good time. We'll bet the beer flowed freely.....Miss Armstrong failed to get a certificate so our board met last Saturday and hired a Mr. Johnson to teach our primary.....The eclipse--well it was hardly worth looking at but perhaps it will be larger when it occurs again on Sept. 26, 1912. Remember the day and date....The old church house has been turned into a tobacco curing house. Well, well, wonder what next. [One at Barnesville was turned into a cigar factory. Later, however, it was changed to a laundry, which brings it close to its former high estate, since cleanliness is next to godliness.--Ed.].....Morgan Hatcher will shortly move to Bethesda, having rented his farm to James Gamble....Evan Saffrel has bought the Reuben Perkins farm at Pleasant Ridge....Mrs. Minerva Boyer and Laura Crew, of Iowa, have been visiting relatives here.....Mr. A. J. Smith is canvassing this section for a patent dish washer....Mrs. Nancy Jane Philips had the misfortune to be kicked by a cow, breaking her left limb just above the ankle....The first freeze of the season was Sept. 25; last year on the 3rd. Rain fell on 9 days and precious little at that, and on 13 days last year. Average temperature for last month, 61. Our warmest day for the season was Sept. 7--106.....When a man measures the Bible by himself the holy book is sure to be wrong, but when he measures himself by the Bible he has nothing to say. Strange, isn't it? Temperature past week, 72, which is quite a cooling off.....Mr. Edgar has bought a piece of timber on the Steward farm, north of here, and will commence cutting soon.....Dr. Burcher has gone back to Columbus to graduate and will set up in practice at Somerton.....A twelve-year-old son of Jno. Moore, of Horeb, died last Wednesday from the effects of burns caused by powder. He filled his coat pocket and accidentally set it off.....Mr. Elijah Steward was buried at Mt. Zion last Friday. His death was a sad ending. There are various rumors afloat as to how he came to his death. The exact facts as they occurred will perhaps never be known.....A family reunion was held at Mr. Elijah Perkins Wednesday in honor of his 103 birthday.....A dance in the hall last Thursday night netted 80 cts. Wonder how much of this fortune the trustees of the hall receive? Misses Ollie and Josie Deming start for Iowa next week for fortunes, favor and perhaps a -----,......Farmers are done seeding. Low prices of grain seems to not affect the acreage in this section as a large crop was sown. (end of article) Please let me know if you enjoy reading these articles. I will post more if there is positive feedback. Please email me and let me know either way at: [email protected] Sharen Bowers in Columbus, Ohio but my roots are in Belmont County Jan

Charles Cooper in Duluth 20 Aug. 1901. I have always heard of Elvie being the "Aunt" to my Grandfather. When in fact I have learned that she was an "Adopted" daughter to John and Millie. I did a search in the Wadena birth index and sure enough, there is a child "Perkins" born 20 years to the day. 20 Aug 1881. It looks as though for some reason my Cameron's took in the young Perkins girl. They left Wadena in 1888, so she would have been a small girl at the time. She did not live in the household in 1885 according to the census, so she must have become a member of the family between 1885-1888. I am hoping that someday I can learn the story as to what happend to her parents. All for now, have a great night! Hi, looking for any lead on Serenda or Surilda Perkins. She was born in Floyd Co., KY on March 10, 1836, married Alfred Joseph Bailey in Lawrence Co., KY on Feb. 15, 1852, and died in Wolfe Co., KY on Aug. 4, 1912. Family tradition has it that she was part Indian. ANY lead appreciated.
Sally: I am sure you are aware of the book, Descendants of Nicholas Perkins of Virginia, of which your line is recorded. I descend through the Bostick line; however, I haven't done any research on this line. All that I have is what has been supplied by others. Ed

I'm a recently new member to the group and have hit a brick wall with my 4x's great-grandfather parents. Daniel Reese Perkins was born 4-22-1797 in Kentucky, married the first time to Rachel Herrin before 1820 in IL ?. They had 6 children. He then married Evelena Jones before 3-2-1829 in IL?, they had 10 children. He then married Francis Webb before 3-1853 no children. Daniel died 11-30-1866 and is buried at the Old Webb Cemetery, Warren Co., IL or IA. He had 3 brothers that I know of one was Isaac born 1795, KY, he married Jane Barber 10-7-1813 and died 5-14-1832 IL. Second brother was Elisha born 3-11-1799 KY, he married Susan Barber, Elisha died 6-4-1853, Warren Co., IA. Third brother was Solomon born 2-1-1801 in KY married Mary Polly Ogle 12-9-1819 in IL. Solomon died 12-17-1886 NE. I think there was a 4th brother named Samuel but no information on him and a sister that maybe married a Kaisey. One of Daniel's son's with wife Evelena Jones was Zadak Perkins born 1-23-1844 in IL was my 3x's great grandfather and then George Washington Perkins born 12-4-1873 IL then Roy Bruce Perkins born 4-27-1906 then Harris Marvin Perkins born 4-13-1934. I would appreciate any help anyone out there can give finding Daniel's parents. I have searched high and low with no luck. I have come across alot of cousin with my search but no parents. Jeannie
